About this episode
A Gentle Bedtime Journey Through Moonlit Leaves, Told in a Grandparent’s Cozy, Soothing Voice
0:00
A single dewdrop on a big, green leaf caught the moonlight and shone like a tiny, perfect star.
0:09
That leaf wasn't so very far from the woods where we heard about Bartholomew the Badger's magical night.
0:19
But tonight's story is about someone much, much smaller, with an adventure all his own.
0:28
His name was Silas, and he was a snail.
0:32
Silas peeked out from his smooth, swirly shell.
0:37
He saw that one sparkling light, and then another, and another.
0:43
A shimmering path of dewdrops lay across the garden, glowing softly in the night.
0:51
"Oh my," he whispered to himself.
0:55
"Where could that lovely path go?" He knew he wasn't the fastest creature in the garden.
1:03
But he was very, very curious.
1:06
So, he set out, leaving a silvery trail of his own behind him.
1:13
The path led him over a twig that felt like a fallen log, and across a patch of moss as soft as a velvet blanket.
1:24
He went slowly, taking in all the quiet sounds of the night.
1:30
After a while, he saw a new light.
1:33
It was different from the dewdrops.
1:37
It was a soft, pale green, and it pulsed gently.
1:42
It was resting on a big white flower.
1:45
As Silas got closer, he saw it was a beautiful Luna Moth, her long, graceful wings looking like they were spun from moonlight itself.
1:59
"Hello," Silas said, his voice barely a whisper.
2:04
The moth turned her feathery antennae toward him.
2:09
"Hello, little snail," she said, her voice like the rustle of leaves.
2:16
"You are following the moon-path." "The moon-path?" Silas asked.
2:22
"I am.
2:23
I wanted to see where it ends." The moth gave a gentle flutter.
2:29
"Ah, but that is the secret," she said softly.
2:33
"It doesn't end.
2:35
It simply...
2:36
is." Silas was a little confused.
2:40
The moth seemed to understand.
2:43
"Be very still," she whispered.
2:46
"Stop moving, and just...
2:48
listen.
2:49
Listen with your whole self." So Silas did.
2:53
He pulled his head back just a little.
2:57
He stopped his slow, forward slide.
3:01
He waited in the quiet of the garden.
3:04
And then he felt it.
3:06
A tiny, gentle vibration through the moss beneath him.
3:12
It was a soft hum.
3:14
Then, he heard it.
3:15
A sound like tiny, crystal bells.
3:19
It was a quiet, shimmering music, coming from every single dewdrop all around him.
3:27
They were singing.
3:29
The dewdrops were singing the moonlight's song.
3:33
A deep, cozy peace settled over Silas.
3:37
He had found the secret.
3:40
The path wasn't about going somewhere.
3:43
It was about stopping to hear the beauty that was already there.
3:50
He looked up to thank the moth, but she was already gone, a faint green glow disappearing into the dark.
4:00
Silas found a soft, velvety mushroom cap nearby.
4:05
He nestled himself onto it, feeling safe and warm.
4:10
He closed his eyes, listening to the gentle music of the night, and slowly, peacefully, drifted off to sleep.
4:21
And on his own swirly shell, a single dewdrop rested, sparkling just for him.
4:29
A tiny, perfect nightlight.
