About this episode
Drift to sleep with cozy tales of wonder, narrated softly like a grandparent's warm bedtime embrace.
0:00
The tiniest sound in the whole wide world is a dewdrop falling on a mushroom.
0:08
Plink.
0:08
Last night, we visited our friend Silas the Snail in his moonlit garden.
0:16
Well, living right next to that garden, in a great big meadow, is a little mouse named Milo.
0:26
And Milo heard that tiny sound.
0:29
His whiskers twitched.
0:32
His little black eyes opened.
0:35
The whole meadow was sparkling under the big, gentle moon.
0:41
Every blade of grass, every clover leaf, held a tiny drop of water.
0:48
They glittered like a carpet of fallen stars.
0:53
Milo crept out of his warm little nest.
0:57
He had a very important idea.
1:00
Tonight, he would find the most beautiful, most shimmering dewdrop in the entire meadow.
1:10
His quiet adventure began.
1:12
First, he saw a dewdrop balanced on the tip of a long green blade of grass.
1:21
He crept closer.
1:22
Inside the tiny drop, he could see a perfect, curved sliver of the moon.
1:30
It was very beautiful.
1:32
But was it the most beautiful?
1:36
Milo wasn't sure.
1:37
So he kept going.
1:39
He scampered over to a patch of purple clover.
1:44
There, nestled in the center of a leaf, was a whole family of dewdrops.
1:52
Seven of them, all huddled together.
1:56
They sparkled like a tiny diamond necklace left behind by a fairy.
2:03
Milo wiggled his nose.
2:05
It was lovely to see them all together, but he was looking for one, single, special drop.
2:15
He padded on, his little paws making no sound on the soft earth.
2:21
He passed a ladybug, fast asleep on a daisy petal.
2:27
He peeked under a fluffy dandelion clock.
2:31
He saw dozens of dewdrops… hundreds, maybe.
2:36
Each one was a tiny, perfect mirror for the night sky.
2:42
He was starting to feel a little sleepy.
2:46
This was a harder quest than he thought.
2:50
How could he ever choose?
2:53
Just then, as a soft breeze whispered through the grass, he saw something shimmer.
3:02
It wasn't on a leaf.
3:04
It wasn't on a flower.
3:06
Stretched between two yellow buttercups was a single strand of spider silk, almost invisible.
3:16
And hanging from the very center of that strand… was one dewdrop.
3:23
It floated in the cool night air.
3:27
And when Milo looked inside this one, he held his breath.
3:33
It didn't just hold the moon.
3:36
It held everything.
3:38
He could see the whole sky, with every single tiny, faraway star, all held inside one perfect, trembling drop of water.
3:51
Wow.
3:51
Milo sat perfectly still for a long, long time.
3:56
He didn't try to touch it.
3:59
He knew this treasure wasn't for him to have.
4:04
It was for him to see.
4:06
And that was more than enough.
4:09
His little mouse heart felt full and calm.
4:14
He had found it.
4:15
With a big, sleepy yawn, Milo turned and headed for home.
4:21
He trotted back past the sleeping ladybug and the clover patch.
4:28
He found his cozy nest under the roots of the old oak tree, and curled into a tiny, warm ball.
4:38
And as he drifted off to sleep, he dreamed of a single, perfect star, floating in a drop of water, in the middle of the quiet, peaceful night.
