About this episode
A cozy bedtime tale where a tiny firefly discovers a magical secret hidden in a single drop of dew.
0:00
A single drop of dew, balanced on a blade of grass, held a secret.
0:06
Inside, something shimmered.
0:09
Not like moonlight, and not like a firefly.
0:13
It was a tiny, perfect star.
0:16
Nearby, a little firefly named Flicker blinked his light on and off, on and off.
0:24
He was one of the smallest fireflies in the whole meadow, and his light was more of a gentle pulse than a bright flash.
0:35
He flew closer to the dewdrop, his wings making a soft, humming sound.
0:42
He peered inside.
0:44
The little star pulsed back, a silent, lonely hello.
0:49
Flicker knew, with a certainty that filled his whole tiny body, that this star was lost.
0:58
It didn't belong in a dewdrop.
1:01
It belonged in the deep, velvety sky with all its brothers and sisters.
1:08
But the sky was so very far away.
1:11
Flicker flew in a small, worried circle.
1:15
"How can I help you get home?" he whispered.
1:19
The star only shimmered in reply.
1:22
First, he tried to push the dewdrop.
1:26
He buzzed his wings as hard as he could, but the little globe of water just wobbled.
1:34
It didn't move.
1:36
This was a very big problem for a very small firefly.
1:41
He zipped over to a nearby mushroom, where a field mouse named Pip was just settling in for the night.
1:51
"Pip," Flicker buzzed softly.
1:54
"A star has fallen into a dewdrop!" Pip twitched his whiskers.
2:00
"A star?
2:00
Goodness.
2:01
They are usually much too high." Flicker explained his problem.
2:08
Pip thought for a moment, then suggested they talk to Luna, the oldest moth in the meadow.
2:16
Her wings were like dusty maps of the night sky.
2:21
Luna listened patiently, her antennae quivering.
2:26
"We cannot carry a star," she said, her voice like rustling leaves.
2:32
"But perhaps...
2:34
perhaps we can show it the way." That's when Flicker had his idea.
2:40
It was a big idea, one that made his light pulse brighter than it ever had before.
2:48
He couldn't do it alone.
2:51
But he wasn't alone.
2:53
He flew to the center of the meadow and began to flash his light in a special rhythm.
3:01
It was a call he had never used before.
3:05
One by one, then ten by ten, then a hundred by a hundred, the other fireflies answered.
3:13
They rose from the clover and the cattails, a swirling, glittering cloud of light.
3:22
Flicker led them back to the dewdrop.
3:25
"Together!" he pulsed.
3:27
And all at once, every single firefly in the meadow began to glow.
3:34
They didn't fly away.
3:36
They hovered, creating a river of light that flowed up from the grass, past the tops of the tallest flowers, and pointed straight into the heart of the night sky.
3:52
The little star inside the dewdrop saw it.
3:56
It began to glow brighter and brighter, until it lifted right out of the water.
4:04
It floated gently up, following the shining path the fireflies had made for it.
4:11
As it rejoined its family in the sky, it gave one last, brilliant twinkle.
4:19
A thank you.
4:20
A goodbye.
4:21
The fireflies slowly dimmed their lights, and the meadow returned to its soft, moonlit quiet.
4:30
Flicker settled back on his blade of grass, watching the sky.
4:36
And he could have sworn that one star, high above, was winking just for him.
