0:00 Flicker the fox had exactly three white whiskers on the left side of his nose, and four on the right.0:09 He counted them every morning.0:12 It was a small thing that made him feel like himself.0:17 Last week, we heard about a little lion who found the sweetest mango on the savanna.0:25 Today's story is about a little fox who found something even sweeter.0:32 Flicker lived in a cozy den tucked under the roots of an old oak tree.0:38 The den smelled like warm earth and dry leaves.0:43 Flicker was a small fox, with fur the color of a sunset and a fluffy white tip on his tail.0:52 He loved his den, but sometimes...0:55 the forest outside felt very big, and very loud.1:00 And he felt very small, and very quiet.1:03 He wished he had a friend to share secrets with.1:08 But everyone seemed so...1:10 different.1:11 He saw Shelly the snail, inching along a mossy log.1:16 Flicker loved to run and pounce and leap.1:20 How could you play with someone who moved so slowly?1:25 Then he saw Buzzy the bee, darting from clover to dandelion.1:31 Buzzy was ALWAYS working, always humming, always in a hurry.1:37 Flicker liked to lie in sunbeams and watch the clouds drift by.1:43 Buzzy seemed much too busy for a quiet fox.1:47 Under a fern, Barnaby the badger was reading a book made of pressed leaves.1:54 Barnaby was very serious and very quiet.1:58 He didn't seem to want to run or play at all.2:02 Flicker sighed a little fox sigh.2:05 It seemed like everyone already had their own way of being.2:11 There was no room for a friend like him.2:15 He felt his whiskers droop.2:17 One afternoon, while chasing a falling leaf, Flicker tumbled into a patch of prickly brambles.2:26 "Ouch!" he yelped.2:28 A tiny, sharp thorn was stuck right in his paw.2:32 It stung and it throbbed, and no matter how he licked it, he couldn't get it out.2:40 He felt a tear well up in his eye.2:44 Just then, a slow, careful voice said, "What's the matter, little fox?" It was Shelly, the snail.2:53 She had moved so slowly that she was the only one who noticed him stop.3:00 She peered at his paw.3:02 "Oh, I see it," she said.3:04 Before Flicker could answer, Buzzy the bee zipped down.3:09 "Trouble?3:10 I saw you fall!" she buzzed.3:13 "I'll be right back!" And she flew off, returning a moment later with a tiny, sticky drop of tree sap.3:23 Then, Barnaby the badger padded over quietly, his leaf-book tucked under his arm.3:30 He looked at the paw, at the thorn, and at the sap.3:35 He knew JUST what to do.3:38 Barnaby gently took a clean leaf.3:41 He used Buzzy's sticky sap to touch the end of the thorn.3:46 Then, with a soft little tug, the thorn came right out.3:52 Flicker wiggled his paw.3:54 The sting was gone!3:56 He looked at his three new friends.3:59 Shelly’s slowness had helped her see his problem.4:04 Buzzy’s busy-ness had helped her find a solution.4:08 And Barnaby’s quiet wisdom had known exactly how to fix it.4:14 Their differences hadn't kept them apart.4:18 Their differences were what made them a perfect team!4:23 From that day on, playing together was the best kind of adventure.4:29 Flicker would tell Shelly stories while she made her slow, careful way across a log.4:37 He’d sit with Buzzy and help her find the sweetest flowers.4:43 And he’d curl up beside Barnaby, listening to quiet stories as the sun set.4:50 The little fox with the mismatched whiskers learned that friendship wasn't about being the same.4:59 It was about bringing all your different pieces together to make something new, and wonderful, and whole.
