0:00 OpenAI just shut down its video generator, Sora, after burning through a million dollars a day.0:07 This isn't the story of a failed app.0:10 It’s the story of a strategic retreat, driven by the single most valuable resource in tech today: raw compute.0:18 Last week we talked about AI's silent revolution.0:22 Well, this is what it sounds like when the quiet part gets loud.0:27 The Sora shutdown was so abrupt it blindsided partners like Disney, who had a billion-dollar commitment on the line and got less than an hour's notice.0:39 While OpenAI was pulling the plug, Google quietly released its Agent Development Kit for Java, expanding its open-source framework beyond Python for the first time.0:51 This matters because it’s a key piece of the infrastructure for what Fortune is now calling 'agentic commerce'—AI agents with their own digital wallets, ready to transact on our behalf.1:05 And the thread worth your time today came from a developer named Rohit.1:11 He thought he was a power user of Anthropic's Claude Code, then realized he was using maybe thirty percent of its features after the tool's own creator dropped a thread about its hidden capabilities.1:26 The tools are getting deeper, faster than even their best users can keep up.1:32 Let’s go back to Sora.1:34 The app peaked at a million users, then collapsed to under five hundred thousand worldwide.1:41 But every single video generated, even on the way down, was consuming a staggering amount of GPU power.1:49 The phrase that captures this best is 'compute is the new crude oil.' And OpenAI, looking at its balance sheet, realized it was drilling in the wrong place.2:01 They were spending a million dollars a day on a consumer spectacle that was losing its audience.2:08 And all the while, a rival was gaining ground.2:12 Anthropic was quietly winning over the engineers and enterprises that actually drive revenue.2:19 Their tool, Claude Code, isn't flashy.2:22 It doesn't make viral videos that clog up your feed.2:26 It just helps developers build things faster.2:29 It solves a business problem, not a passing curiosity.2:34 This is the pivot.2:35 The entire industry is shifting from consumer-facing demos to professional-grade infrastructure.2:42 OpenAI didn't kill Sora because it was a failure.2:46 They killed it to free up resources to fight Anthropic on the ground that actually matters: the developer's desktop.2:55 And this is why Google's move with the ADK for Java is so significant.3:00 It’s not just another software release.3:03 It’s Google acknowledging this new battlefield and arming its own soldiers for a multi-language war.3:11 The era of AI as a magic trick is ending.3:14 The spectacle is over.3:16 What begins now is the much harder, much more lucrative work of building an economy run by agents—and the fight for who provides the tools to build it has just turned vicious.
