0:00 Elon Musk just pointed out on Twitter that India's birth rate has fallen below replacement level.0:08 Yeah, that Elon Musk.0:09 He noted the rate dropped from two-point-three to one-point-nine in a decade, sparking a massive debate about the country's economic future.0:21 Last week we talked about AirTrunk's thirty-billion-dollar data leap, a huge bet on India's growth.0:30 But what happens when the fundamental engine of that growth—its demographic advantage—starts to look different?0:39 That's the backdrop for today.0:42 While everyone was debating demographics, the Indian government just made a massive move to attract foreign money.0:51 Effective April 1st, they've exempted overseas investors from all taxes on interest and capital gains from government securities.1:02 The goal?1:03 To plug a forty to fifty billion dollar funding gap and stabilize the rupee.1:09 This is a big one.1:11 In other capital news, Nazara Technologies, the gaming and sports media company, just raised one hundred eighteen crore rupees upfront by issuing warrants.1:24 The key here isn't just the money, it's who's buying in.1:29 A firm called Plutus Investments is now part of the promoter group, signaling a much deeper commitment.1:37 And if you want a sign of just how hot the market is, the IPO for CMR Green Technologies was subscribed one hundred and twenty-seven times.1:49 That's not a typo.1:51 One hundred twenty-seven.1:53 They raised over six hundred crore, and the grey market is already pricing in a nearly forty percent listing gain.2:02 Finally, Russia’s Sberbank is seriously deepening its ties here.2:08 They just launched factoring services for Indian small businesses, saw a sixty percent jump in rupee deposits, and—this is the part that matters—are strengthening AI collaboration between their teams and tech hubs in Bangalore.2:27 Okay, let's go back to the two biggest moves, because they're connected.2:33 The government tax exemption and Sberbank's expansion.2:38 First, the tax break.2:39 For years, foreign investors have complained about the twenty percent withholding tax on Indian government bonds.2:49 It was a major barrier.2:51 Now, it's gone.2:52 Poof.2:53 This isn't just a small tweak; it's a structural change designed to make Indian debt massively more attractive.3:02 Why now?3:03 Because India is finally getting included in major global bond indices, like JPMorgan's.3:10 That inclusion was supposed to trigger a flood of passive investment, but the government isn't taking any chances.3:20 They're actively sweetening the deal to make sure that money—tens of billions of dollars—actually shows up.3:29 As one analyst put it, this gives the rupee "tangible support" by directly increasing the supply of dollars.3:38 The catch?3:39 Foreign ownership of Indian bonds is still super low, around three percent.3:45 So this move is less about rewarding current investors and more about rolling out a very expensive red carpet for new ones.3:55 Then there's Sberbank.3:57 This isn't just a Russian bank opening more accounts.4:02 Alexander Vedyakhin, their number two, basically said India is on track to be a top three global economy by 2030 and they need to be deeply embedded here.4:15 The financial services for MSMEs are a start.4:19 But the real story is the tech collaboration.4:22 They have AI engineers in Bangalore working directly with their Russian teams to build sovereign AI.4:31 Think about that.4:32 While the West is trying to decouple and de-risk, Russia is co-developing core technology on Indian soil.4:41 It's a completely different kind of partnership, moving way beyond just buying and selling.4:49 It’s about building the next generation of systems...4:53 together.4:54 So you have these two massive, parallel stories.4:58 One is India opening its doors wide to global, largely Western, financial capital by changing its tax laws.5:07 The other is a strategic deepening with Russia, not just in finance but in foundational technology like AI.5:16 It’s like the country is running two different operating systems at the same time.5:23 Pulling in money from anywhere it can, while building strategic alliances where it counts.5:31 All of it is a race to build and fund the future, even as the very definition of India's population—its core asset—is quietly, fundamentally, changing.
