0:00 Graphcore, a UK chipmaker owned by SoftBank, just announced it’s investing one-point-three billion dollars in India over the next ten years.0:09 This isn't just another funding round.0:11 Last episode, we talked about the billion-dollar bets shaping the ecosystem, and this move completely reframes that conversation.0:20 This is a direct challenge to Nvidia’s dominance, being built on Indian soil.0:25 And that’s just the lead.0:27 The money is flowing everywhere.0:29 Raise Financial, the parent of stock-trading app Dhan, just closed a one-hundred-and-twenty-million-dollar round, making it the newest unicorn with a one-point-two-billion-dollar valuation.0:41 And speaking of global players, Anthropic—the AI company from San Francisco—is officially ramping up operations here, with their CEO calling India their second-largest market and central to how AI develops globally.0:56 Meanwhile, Flipkart just sold off stakes in other startups worth over two-thousand-four-hundred-and-eight crore rupees.1:04 They're cleaning house, focusing on their core e-commerce business, and everyone knows this is about getting lean for a 2026 IPO.1:12 It’s a major consolidation signal.1:14 And the funding hits just keep coming.1:17 Exponent Energy raised two-hundred crore to expand its rapid EV charging network beyond just Bengaluru and Delhi.1:25 MyGate, the housing society platform, pulled in two-hundred-and-twenty-five crore.1:30 And in the health-tech space, an AI oncology startup called RISA Labs just landed eleven-point-one million dollars.1:38 Even the government is making moves, with the Ministry of Electronics and IT reviving talks on a national data centre policy.1:46 They're trying to build the plumbing for all this growth.1:50 Okay, let’s go back to that Graphcore deal, because it’s the one that really changes the board.1:56 A one-point-three-billion-dollar commitment is massive.2:00 But here’s the inside track: this isn’t just about building a factory.2:04 This is a strategic play for talent, for the market, and for a piece of the global semiconductor supply chain outside of Taiwan and the US.2:14 Graphcore’s CEO, Nigel Toon, is betting that India can become a hub for chip innovation, not just consumption.2:21 For years, every AI startup in India—every AI startup in the world, really—has been at the mercy of Nvidia’s supply.2:29 You get the GPUs they decide to sell you, at the price they decide to charge.2:34 It’s been the only game in town.2:36 Graphcore is trying to build a second one, right here.2:39 It’s a ten-year plan, so don't expect to be buying Indian-made IPUs tomorrow.2:45 But it signals a tectonic shift.2:47 It says that major international players now see India not just as a place to sell their tech, but as the place to build their tech.2:56 And that theme… it connects directly to the other big story today, which is the sheer maturity of the AI space itself.3:03 The headline number is that Indian generative AI startups raised five-hundred-and-twenty-four million dollars in the first seven months of last year.3:13 That’s more than the entire year before, and four times what they raised in 2021.3:19 The capital is here.3:20 But here’s the turn.3:21 It’s not about the money anymore.3:24 The Economic Times just ran their Most Innovative AI Product awards, and the throughline was all about measurable impact.3:32 The consensus is shifting.3:33 The question is no longer "can you build an AI model?" It's "does your AI actually work, and can you prove it with a P&L statement?" We’re past the era of just pitching ideas.3:45 We’re even seeing small and medium businesses adopt AI with a clear focus on efficiency.3:51 Look at RISA Labs, that oncology startup that raised eleven million.3:55 They’re not building a foundational model to compete with Anthropic.4:00 They're building AI agents that automate the horrifically complex paperwork for cancer care—verifying benefits, getting approvals.4:08 It saves time, which for an oncology patient, is everything.4:12 That’s the new benchmark.4:14 It's not about how much you build, it's about how well it works.4:18 So you have global giants like Anthropic and Graphcore making massive bets on India as a development hub.4:25 And at the same time, you have homegrown startups that are past the hype and are just… delivering.4:32 They’re building practical, high-impact tools that solve real problems.4:37 It’s a two-sided pincer movement.4:39 The infrastructure is being built from the top down, while the actual, tangible value is being created from the bottom up.4:47 India is no longer just a destination for venture capital.4:51 It’s becoming the factory floor and the R&D lab for the next generation of technology.
