0:00 Only fifteen percent of Indian companies with an AI pilot actually manage to scale it.0:05 Admin, last week we were talking about the big signals from the ET Startup Awards.0:10 Well, the judging criteria for their AI awards this year tell you everything you need to know about why that number is so low, and where the real action is.0:20 It's a complete shift in what counts as success.0:23 So, here's the landscape right now.0:25 Nearly half of Indian enterprises are running live AI pilots.0:29 Half!0:29 But only one-five percent get anywhere with them.0:32 The rest just...0:33 die on the vine.0:34 And this isn't about a lack of ideas or a lack of funding; it's about the brutal, unglamorous work of making something actually function inside a real, messy company with messy data and operational friction.0:47 And this is where the Economic Times AI Awards just changed the game.0:51 They've basically decided to ignore the hype cycle.0:55 They're not looking at your funding deck.0:57 They're not looking at your marketing.1:00 They are asking one question, and it's a killer: what CHANGED after your product was deployed?1:05 Show us the measurable business impact.1:08 Show us the deployment depth.1:10 Did you reduce process time?1:11 Did you expand usage?1:13 Did you solve the actual problem?1:15 It's a search for the fifteen percent.1:17 And what they’re finding is that most of the genuinely innovative products, the ones with real retention and real users, are totally unknown outside the niche industry they were built for.1:29 This brings us to the second, and maybe more important, shift.1:33 It's not just what is being built, but where.1:36 Google India's MD, Preeti Lobana, said it perfectly: "The heartbeat of India lives in Tier-2, Tier-3, rural areas." And for the first time, the AI ecosystem is really acting like it.1:47 The focus is moving beyond the big metro enterprise clients.1:51 We're seeing this in the awards, too.1:53 There's a whole category now called "AI for Bharat & Inclusive Innovation." This is where you find the tech that's actually making a difference in agriculture, in local healthcare, in financial inclusion for communities that have been left out.2:08 This is the stuff that has to work with low bandwidth, with multiple languages, with users who might not have a high-end smartphone.2:17 It's a much harder engineering problem, and a much more valuable one to solve.2:21 And this is where the tech itself gets practical.2:24 We're seeing a big move to hybrid AI strategies.2:27 The release of that massive open-weight model from Moonshot AI a few weeks back, Kimi K3, really accelerated this.2:35 It means companies aren't locked into one super-expensive proprietary model anymore.2:40 They can use a powerful, open model for eighty percent of the work and a specialized, proprietary one for the last twenty percent.2:48 The question is no longer "open or closed?" It's "when do we use each?" This flexibility is EXACTLY what you need to build cost-effective solutions for those Tier-2 and Tier-3 markets.2:59 Okay, so with all this disruption, what about the jobs?3:03 The narrative is always that AI is a job-killer.3:06 The data says something completely different.3:09 A new Nomura report just dropped that tracked AI-driven hiring in India from 2022 until now.3:14 The number?3:15 Eighty-three thousand, one hundred new hires.3:18 And the layoffs in the same period?3:20 Thirty-one thousand, nine hundred.3:22 So we're not even close to breaking even.3:25 We're seeing a net creation of over fifty thousand jobs, mostly in white-collar roles.3:30 AI is creating more jobs than it's displacing.3:33 It's not replacing people, it's creating new roles for people who can work with the AI.3:39 The problem isn't a lack of jobs; it's a coming skills gap for people who can manage, deploy, and scale these new systems.3:46 So when you zoom out, the story of AI in India right now isn't about magical, futuristic tech.3:52 It's about a quiet, difficult, and incredibly practical revolution.3:56 It's about moving from the lab to the factory floor, the farm, and the local bank branch.4:02 The pilot phase is over.4:03 We're now in the execution era.4:05 And the real test isn't whether your AI can do something clever in a controlled demo.4:11 It's whether it can survive contact with a Tuesday morning in a real business...4:16 and still be running on Friday.
