0:00 Nvidia is in talks to guarantee a quarter-TRILLION dollars in financing for a single OpenAI data center project.0:07 Last week in episode ninety-one, we talked about how ASCEND-2026 is redrawing India's tech map.0:13 Well, a capital wave of THIS magnitude doesn't just redraw the map, it reshapes the entire continent it's on.0:20 And the US Commerce Secretary is personally involved in deciding who gets access.0:25 That’s the scale of the game right now.0:27 But while global giants are playing with nation-state-level money, the mood on the ground here is… different.0:34 Today, sources confirmed that top funds are telling quick-commerce startup Zepto they won't subscribe to its IPO, even at a LOWER valuation.0:43 That’s a cold shower for the entire ecosystem.0:46 And it’s not just late-stage companies feeling the chill.0:49 The number of AI startups in India has more than doubled in three years, hitting 465.0:55 But here’s the catch: a huge number of them are stuck in the "free pilot" trap, unable to convert enterprise interest into actual, paying contracts.1:04 We’re also seeing a major shift in capital, with private equity investors now actively pulling money out of traditional IT services to go all-in on these very same AI startups.1:15 And in the hardware space, a company called NxtQuantum just announced it’s sold over twenty lakh units, making it the fastest-growing Indian smartphone brand ever.1:26 Their goal isn't just selling phones—it's to build a fully indigenous component ecosystem, something that's been controlled by foreign brands for a decade.1:35 Okay, let's go deeper on two of those, because they tell you everything you need to know about the market's real temperature.1:43 First, Zepto.1:44 Remember the whole "growth at any cost" era?1:47 This is the hangover.1:48 Zepto is a poster child for the quick-commerce boom.1:52 They were fast, they raised a ton of money, and they captured market share.1:56 Now they want to go public.1:58 But the market has changed.2:00 The Economic Times is reporting today that three different sources inside the deal say major asset managers have flat-out rejected the proposed IPO valuation.2:10 The quote is brutal: they’re not comfortable subscribing "even at the lower valuation being considered." This isn't just a negotiation.2:18 This is a fundamental statement of principle from the people who write the biggest checks.2:24 It means the days of buying a story are OVER.2:27 They want to see a clear, undeniable path to profitability.2:31 And if you can't show them that, they are perfectly happy to sit on the sidelines.2:36 This sends a shockwave to every other unicorn in the pipeline thinking about an IPO.2:41 The bar just got raised.2:43 SIGNIFICANTLY.2:43 Now, connect that to the AI startup boom.2:46 On one hand, you have this incredible growth—from 182 to 465 startups.2:51 You have Deloitte reporting that forty percent of Indian enterprises have adopted AI, which is way higher than the global average.2:59 So why are so many of these startups struggling to get paid?3:03 Here's the part nobody tells you.3:05 Jayanth Kolla over at Convergence Catalyst laid it out perfectly today.3:09 He said many Indian companies are still slow to commit.3:13 Their local execs might love the tech, but they don't have the power to sign a big check.3:18 Decisions get kicked up through layers of approval, often to a global HQ, and the deal just… dies.3:24 So the startups are forced to offer free pilots just to get a foot in the door, hoping to prove their value.3:31 But they’re burning through cash while they wait for a decision that might never come.3:37 It's a treadmill, not a launchpad.3:39 So you have this tidal wave of global capital coming for AI, but on the ground in India, both investors and customers are holding the line.3:48 They're not buying hype anymore.3:50 They're buying results.3:51 The message is clear: show me it works, and show me it makes money.3:55 The free ride is officially over.
