0:00 Skyroot Aerospace just became the first private Indian company to put a rocket into orbit.0:05 Last week in episode eighty-five we talked about Reliance's massive two-billion-dollar bet on software AI, but today the story is about hardware that FLIES.0:16 The successful launch of the Vikram-1 rocket changes everything for India's private spacetech sector, turning years of belief into a hard fact on the launchpad.0:26 And that's not the only deeptech story moving today.0:30 A defense-AI startup, Skylark Labs, is in advanced talks to raise one hundred fifty million dollars, which would make it India's newest unicorn at over a billion-dollar valuation.0:41 We're also seeing big moves in other sectors.0:44 Plazza, a pharmacy-first quick commerce player, just locked down a fifteen-million-dollar Series A from Accel and Elevation.0:52 They've only been around since 2024 but their growth is explosive—a twenty-seven-fold increase in value between last June and this March.1:01 And in the consumer space, an AI-powered travel platform called 30 Sundays just raised six-point-seven million from Bessemer Venture Partners.1:11 All of this is happening as Paytm reports a huge surge in Q1 profits, which is a macro signal that market confidence is definitely back.1:20 Okay, let's go back to that rocket for a second.1:23 The Skyroot launch isn't just about one company's success.1:27 It's what the venture world calls a "validation event." One investor, Manu Iyer at BlueHill Capital, put it perfectly.1:34 He said the launch validated what many have long believed: that India has ALWAYS had exceptional technical talent.1:42 The question was never about talent.1:44 It was about the ecosystem's ability to fund and execute on something this complex, this capital-intensive, outside of a government program.1:53 That question is now answered.1:55 You can bet that every investor who was on the fence about a spacetech or a hard-tech startup just saw their risk calculation change overnight.2:05 Skyroot just de-risked an entire category.2:07 And that brings us to Skylark Labs, the soon-to-be defense-tech unicorn.2:12 This is the other side of the deeptech coin.2:15 While Skyroot is building physical hardware, Skylark is building strategic AI.2:20 And this isn't just another SaaS tool.2:23 Skylark's clients are the Indian Army, Navy, Air Force, and even international clients like the US Air Force.2:30 Here’s the part that really matters.2:32 The reason they're set to command a billion-dollar valuation isn't just the tech—it's the DATA.2:38 Their AI systems are trained on incredibly sensitive Indian defense data and operational protocols.2:45 You can't just use a generic model for that.2:48 This is about data sovereignty.2:50 The AI has to be built and trained in-house, on-shore, with data that can never, ever leave the country's control.2:57 So what Skylark is selling isn't just an algorithm; it's trust.3:01 It's strategic independence.3:03 And in 2026, that is a very, very valuable commodity.3:07 They've built something that is, by its very nature, impossible to outsource.3:12 So when you put these two stories together—Skyroot's rocket and Skylark's strategic AI—the picture becomes clear.3:19 The narrative in Indian tech is shifting.3:22 For years, the story was about software, services, and consumer apps.3:26 It was about bits.3:28 Now, it's about atoms.3:29 It's about building hard things, things that fly, things that defend borders.3:34 The government’s one lakh crore R&D fund is pouring fuel on this fire, but the spark is coming from founders who are tackling problems that can't be solved with code alone.3:45 This isn't just another funding cycle.3:48 This is a change in what the ecosystem believes is possible.3:52 India isn't just building apps for the world anymore.3:55 It's building the machines and the intelligence that will shape its own future.
