0:00 Okay, so get this.0:01 Family offices in India just cranked up their deeptech investments by nearly THIRTY-FOLD.0:06 From fifteen million dollars in 2020 to almost half a billion last year.0:11 This isn't just another funding trend.0:13 This is a fundamental shift in where the smart money is going.0:17 Yesterday, we were talking about Sarvam AI's big seventy-five million dollar boost from Nvidia—and that was just the opening act.0:25 The headlines are coming in fast.0:27 Electric scooter maker River Mobility just closed a one hundred twenty million dollar Series C.0:34 Inflexor Ventures announced the first close of a new forty-eight million dollar fund, Fund Three, aimed squarely at deeptech.0:41 Even the smaller, more specialized AI startups are getting snapped up—Pinegap raised eight million, Profound got one-point-five million, and AI assistant Hulp just pocketed two-point-six million.0:54 And it’s not just AI.0:55 Insurtech platform InRisk Labs pulled in twenty-seven million.0:59 But the biggest number, the one that really changes the map, belongs to Skyroot Aerospace.1:05 They've become India's first spacetech unicorn, now valued at over one-point-one billion dollars.1:11 So what is going on?1:12 Why is all this money moving, right now, into these incredibly complex, long-term bets?1:18 Here’s the thing.1:19 For years, the mantra was growth at all costs.1:22 Build an app, get a billion users, figure out how to make money later.1:26 That game is over.1:27 What we're seeing now is a pivot to something much more deliberate.1:32 It’s about building infrastructure, owning the ecosystem, and securing sovereign capability.1:37 Let's go back to Sarvam AI.1:39 That seventy-five million dollar cheque from Nvidia wasn't just a vote of confidence.1:45 It was the first time a global chipmaker has made a strategic investment in an Indian sovereign AI startup.1:51 Nvidia isn't just funding a company; they're buying a piece of India's national AI ambition.1:57 And look at who else joined the round: a new fund called Activate.2:01 Their entire mission is to support the ecosystem—helping other companies adopt AI, building research talent.2:08 They’re not just trying to grow one tree; they’re planting a forest.2:13 This isn't a land grab for users anymore.2:15 It’s a race to build the actual digital railroads and power stations of the next economy.2:21 And that brings us to the second, and maybe more important, shift.2:25 The money itself has changed.2:27 That thirty-fold explosion in deeptech funding from family offices?2:31 That’s patient capital.2:33 This isn't your typical VC fund looking for a ten-X return in five years.2:37 As Jai Rupani from the Dinesh Hinduja Family Office put it, they have a split strategy—investing in both new, specialized managers and experienced funds.2:47 They're playing a long game.2:49 Why?2:49 Because they can.2:50 And because, as Anirudh Damani of Artha Venture Fund says, the government has made it a national priority.2:57 Think about spacetech.2:58 The US and China are planning hundreds of missions a year.3:02 India is just getting started.3:04 That gap… that’s the opportunity.3:06 So when you see Skyroot Aerospace raise fifty million to hit a one-point-one billion dollar valuation, don't just see a number.3:14 See privately-developed orbital launch capability.3:17 See a company that's not just building an app, but building the physical infrastructure to put things in ORBIT.3:24 This is hard stuff.3:25 It takes years.3:26 It takes the kind of capital that doesn't get scared by a bad quarter.3:31 So when you see all these deals—from a sovereign AI lab to an electric scooter company to a rocket startup—don't see them as separate stories.3:40 They're all part of the same shift.3:42 The era of easy-growth digital consumer plays is winding down.3:46 The new era is about building hard things, foundational things.3:50 The gold rush is over.3:51 Now, they're building the railroads.
