0:00 The share of AI jobs inside India's biggest global tech centers just exploded.0:04 It was eleven percent in 2021.0:06 The new projection for 2026?0:08 SIXTY-FOUR percent.0:09 We talk a lot on this show about billion-dollar AI bets and game-changing launches—well, here’s where those bets are actually landing.0:18 It’s not just in code, it’s in careers, and it’s completely reshaping the country’s tech workforce, right now.0:25 This isn’t some abstract trend.0:27 Let's look at Telangana.0:28 The state just attracted one hundred and fifty new Global Capability Centers—or GCCs—in the last twenty months alone.0:36 That created one hundred and fifty thousand new jobs.0:39 And just this week, the real estate giant JLL announced it's launching a new one hundred and twenty thousand square foot GCC right in Hyderabad, with plans to hire sixteen hundred people.0:51 But here’s the part that you need to watch.0:53 These aren't the back-office jobs of ten years ago.0:57 That jump from eleven to sixty-four percent AI-focused hiring tells you everything.1:02 The work has changed.1:03 It’s no longer about cost arbitrage; it's about talent arbitrage.1:07 Companies are coming to India not because it's cheap, but because this is where the AI engineers, the data scientists, and the machine learning specialists are.1:17 Or… where they’re supposed to be.1:19 So if Hyderabad is the story of explosive growth, there's another story unfolding down south that might be even more significant.1:28 And that’s Chennai.1:29 For years, the narrative was always about catching up to Bengaluru.1:33 That's over.1:34 Chennai is now playing a completely different game.1:37 Here's the thing: Chennai is combining its old strengths in manufacturing and deep engineering with this new GCC boom.1:44 And it’s creating this powerful, reinforcing cycle.1:48 The city’s office vacancy rate has fallen to just under ten percent, even with forty-two million square feet of new office space in the pipeline.1:57 Demand is just swallowing up new supply.1:59 But why?2:00 Two reasons.2:01 First, talent.2:02 Nearly half of Chennai's annual graduates are in engineering and technology.2:06 But the real kicker is retention.2:08 In 2025, voluntary attrition—people quitting—was just eight percent for engineering GCCs, and under six percent for other GCCs.2:16 That is the LOWEST among all Tier one cities.2:19 For a company running a massive global team, that stability is gold.2:24 It's cheaper to keep the talent you have than to constantly re-hire.2:28 Second, Chennai is building for the future, not just for today.2:32 Yes, office rent is about nineteen percent cheaper than Bengaluru, but that’s not the main selling point.2:38 The city has the highest share of green-certified commercial buildings in India, at sixty-two percent.2:45 It has the second-highest operational data center capacity in the country, with another thousand megawatts planned.2:52 This is a city preparing for a world dominated by AI and cloud computing, where power and connectivity are as important as office desks.3:01 Chennai isn't trying to be the next Bengaluru.3:04 It’s building something more durable.3:06 Okay, so you have this massive demand for AI skills in Hyderabad, and this durable, talent-retaining ecosystem in Chennai.3:14 That creates a huge question: where are all these skilled people going to come from?3:19 India has about one and a half million young people in its Industrial Training Institutes, or ITIs.3:25 But for a long time, they’ve been training on equipment from another era.3:30 That has just started to change.3:32 A government plan called PM-Setu is quietly trying to fix this.3:36 It’s a sixty-thousand crore rupee initiative to completely overhaul one thousand of these ITIs.3:42 But it’s not just about new equipment.3:44 Here’s the structural shift: industry is now co-designing the curriculum.3:49 Think about that.3:50 Instead of companies complaining that graduates don't have the right skills, they are now directly involved in building the training programs.3:59 A company like Jindal in Odisha is helping create a world-class mining and steel skilling ecosystem right there.4:06 The premise is simple, and honestly, it’s about time.4:09 Industry shouldn't just recruit skilled workers; it needs to help create them.4:14 This program is aiming to directly train nearly two million young people.4:19 It’s a massive bet that the only way to fuel this tech and manufacturing boom is to build the workforce before it even walks through the factory or office door.4:29 The old map of India's tech hubs was drawn by real estate prices and tax breaks.4:34 The new map is being drawn by something else entirely.4:37 It’s being drawn by talent pipelines, by attrition rates, and by the cities that understand you can't just build an office park — you have to build an entire ecosystem.4:48 The race is no longer for the cheapest desk.4:51 It's for the sharpest mind.
