About this episode
Your Friday night guide to the best—and worst—new releases on every major streaming platform

Netflix’s new animated film Swapped just pulled in fifteen-point-five million views, breaking a three-year record for their English-language movies.
0:09
This isn't just a hit; it's a signal flare about what audiences are actually desperate for right now.
0:15
Just last week we were digging into the weeds of folk horror and A-list comedies, but this week, a bright, silly, body-swap cartoon changed the entire conversation.
0:26
So let's run the board.
0:28
On Netflix, your must-watch is obviously Swapped.
0:31
It’s got Michael B.
0:32
Jordan and Juno Temple as rival forest creatures who switch bodies, and it’s this bright, emotional, almost aggressively silly adventure.
0:41
The pattern here isn't new — it’s the classic family movie playbook that Disney and Pixar used to own outright.
0:48
But Netflix has been trying to build its own animation house for years, and this is the first time it feels like they’ve truly cracked the code, not by copying Pixar’s style, but by making something that feels a little looser, a little more like a Saturday morning cartoon with a nine-figure budget.

What to skip?
1:08
I’m skipping Miami Money, their latest docusoap about crypto millionaires.
1:13
We've seen this show a dozen times before, and frankly, watching rich people be boring is a genre I’m finished with.
1:20
Over on Peacock, the big play is M.I.A., a new crime drama from Bill Dubuque, the guy behind Ozark.
1:26
Your watch here is conditional.
1:28
It’s a wild, bloody ride through the Miami cartel world that feels like a telenovela mashed up with a prestige thriller.
1:36
The characters are compelling, but the plot sometimes flies completely off the rails.
1:42
So, watch it if you want that over-the-top, pulpy energy.
1:45
Skip it if you need your crime stories to be grounded and meticulously plotted.
1:50
This ain’t that.
1:51
Hulu has two big moves.
1:53
Your absolute must-watch is Send Help, a survival thriller with Rachel McAdams and Dylan O'Brien.
1:59
Critics are calling it one of the grossest movies in years, but also a "rip-roaring good time." It has the DNA of Sam Raimi's Evil Dead 2 — that perfect, unhinged blend of horror and dark comedy.
2:12
It’s a ride.
2:12
What to skip?
2:13
I'm putting the new British rom-com Alice and Steve on the skip list...
2:18
for now.
2:18
The trailer is cute, but with no reviews yet, it’s a gamble.
2:22
Let's wait a week and see if it’s genuinely charming or just messy.
2:26
Now for the prestige plays.
2:28
Apple TV+ is debuting Cape Fear on June fifth.
2:31
This is my most anticipated watch of the month.
2:34
It's executive produced by Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg, starring Javier Bardem and Amy Adams.
2:41
This isn’t a straight remake; it’s a re-imagining of that psychological dread.
2:46
Apple is doing what it does best: using its war chest to assemble an impossible collection of talent.
2:52
This is their brand.
2:53
The skip on Apple is Echo Valley.
2:56
Julianne Moore and Sydney Sweeney couldn't save a script that feels like a first draft of a better movie.
3:02
It’s all atmosphere, no story.
3:04
Let's do a quick lightning round for the rest.
3:07
On Paramount+, definitely watch Matlock Season 2.
3:10
Kathy Bates is just having the time of her life, and the central mystery is tight and satisfying.
3:17
Skip their new original movie Dockside, a waterfront romance that feels like a Hallmark movie with a bigger budget but less charm.
3:25
On Prime Video, watch the small indie horror film The Lamplight.
3:29
It's a genuinely creepy ghost story they quietly acquired.
3:33
Skip Interceptor 2, which is exactly the loud, dumb action movie you think it is.
3:38
And finally, on Disney+, watch the new collection of Pixar shorts called SparkShots.
3:43
They're inventive and heartfelt.
3:45
Skip the latest Marvel "Assembled" documentary.
3:48
It’s just marketing material disguised as a behind-the-scenes look.
3:53
So what does this all set up?
3:55
For years, the streaming game was about getting everything.
3:58
Now, it’s about finding a lane.
4:00
Netflix just proved it can win the family audience without a princess castle.
4:05
Apple is the new home for boomer auteurs.
4:08
Hulu is cornering the market on high-concept, edgy genre flicks.
4:12
The great streaming war isn't one big battle anymore; it's a dozen different skirmishes on a dozen different fronts.
