0:00 Researchers at Cornell found we make over two hundred decisions every single day...0:05 just about food.0:07 When you add work, family, and finances, that number explodes.0:11 Yesterday, in episode 132, we spoke about finding peace in the middle of anxiety from Philippians.0:18 And the sheer weight of all those daily decisions can be a huge source of that anxiety.0:24 So this morning, let’s hold on to this promise from Proverbs, chapter three, verses five and six.0:31 Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
and lean not on your own understanding.0:37 In all your ways acknowledge him,
and he will make your paths straight.0:42 Let’s sit with that for a moment.0:44 It’s a verse many of us know well.0:47 Maybe TOO well.0:48 It can become so familiar that we forget the radical invitation it’s offering us.0:54 It’s a three-part instruction for navigating your day.0:57 First, "Trust in the Lord with ALL your heart." That word, ALL, is the key.1:03 It’s not "trust with the part of your heart that isn't worried" or "trust with what’s left over after you've made your own plans." It’s a total commitment.1:14 The verse then immediately contrasts this with what NOT to do: "lean not on your own understanding." Here's what that means for you this morning.1:24 Your understanding is a good thing.1:27 God gave it to you.1:28 But it’s limited.1:29 It’s like trying to navigate a cross-country road trip by only looking at the ten feet of pavement right in front of your car.1:38 You can see the immediate details, but you have no idea what’s over the next hill or around the next bend.1:46 Leaning on your own understanding is that feeling of needing to have every outcome figured out before you take a step.1:54 It’s the mental habit of running a thousand worst-case scenarios.1:59 It’s the pressure you put on yourself to be perfect, to never make a mistake.2:05 Trusting with your whole heart is the deep exhale of letting that go.2:10 It’s accepting that you only see the ten feet of pavement, and that’s okay.2:15 Because the one who sees the entire map is in the driver's seat.2:20 The second part of the instruction is the practical part.2:24 It’s the "how-to." "In all your ways acknowledge him." This is the bridge between the trust in your heart and the steps you take with your feet.2:34 The word "acknowledge" here means so much more than a quick nod.2:39 It’s about bringing God into the process.2:41 It's about inviting his presence and wisdom into every corner of your life.2:47 Not just the big, scary decisions, but ALL your ways.2:51 Here's what that means for you in the next twelve hours.2:55 It means that before you send that important email, you can take one second to silently say, "God, guide my words." Before you walk into a difficult meeting, you can breathe, "Lord, give me wisdom here." It means when you're planning your family's schedule or figuring out your budget, you’re not doing it alone.3:17 You’re acknowledging that He is with you, and that His wisdom is available to you.3:23 It changes the posture of your work from a solo performance to a partnership.3:28 You're not just handing God a list of problems to solve.3:32 You are inviting him to walk through the solving of them WITH you.3:37 It’s a continuous conversation.3:39 And that leads to the final part.3:42 The promise.3:43 "And he will make your paths straight." Notice what it doesn't say.3:47 It doesn't say he will make your paths easy.3:51 It doesn't say there won't be hills to climb or valleys to cross.3:55 A straight path is not necessarily a flat path.3:59 A straight path is a direct one.4:01 It’s a path that gets you where you need to go without all the panicked detours and anxious circling back that we create when we're leaning only on ourselves.4:12 Here’s what that promise means for you today.4:15 It means you are freed from the paralysis of "what if I choose wrong?" Your job isn't to perfectly forge your own path.4:24 Your job is to trust and to acknowledge.4:27 His job is to direct.4:28 When you do your part, He does His.4:31 He takes your small, faithful steps and weaves them into a direct, purposeful journey.4:37 He smooths out the road.4:39 He clears the way.4:40 So as you step into this day, with its two hundred or two thousand decisions, the invitation is simple.4:47 Trust fully.4:48 Acknowledge constantly.4:50 And then walk forward in the quiet confidence that your path isn't just your own.4:56 It is being made straight.
