0:00 The World Health Organization estimates that over three hundred million people live with an anxiety disorder.0:10 In our last episode, number ninety-five, we held onto the promise from Jeremiah twenty-nine eleven — that God has a plan for us, a future and a hope.0:23 But knowing there's a good plan for the future doesn't always quiet the noise of right now.0:32 So today, we turn to a promise that speaks directly into that feeling.0:38 A promise for this very moment.0:41 Here is the reading from Isaiah, chapter forty-one, verse ten.0:47 So do not fear, for I am with you;
do not be dismayed, for I am your God.0:53 I will strengthen you and help you;
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.1:01 There are two parts to this promise, and both are for you today.1:07 First, there's the command, followed immediately by the reason.1:13 "Do not fear." That can feel impossible.1:16 But it isn't a command to simply stop feeling an emotion.1:22 Look at what comes next: "FOR I am with you." The reason you don't have to be mastered by fear is because you are not alone in it.1:34 The Creator of the universe is present with you.1:38 Here's what that means for your day: when a wave of anxiety hits, your first move isn't to fight the feeling itself.1:49 It's to remember the fact of God's presence.1:53 The feeling is real, but the presence of God is MORE real.1:58 It changes the equation.2:00 It means you aren't facing this meeting, this difficult conversation, or this uncertainty by yourself.2:10 You are accompanied.2:12 The second part of the promise moves from presence to action.2:17 It says, "I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand." This is SO important.2:28 God's presence isn't passive.2:31 He isn't just watching from the passenger seat.2:35 He is actively involved.2:37 Notice the verbs: strengthen, help, uphold.2:41 These are words of power and support.2:45 Here's what that means when you feel weak or overwhelmed.2:50 You don't have to generate strength out of thin air.2:55 The promise is that strength will be GIVEN to you.2:59 Your job isn't to be strong; your job is to lean on the one who IS strong.3:06 To receive the help being offered.3:09 And that last image...3:11 "I will uphold you with my righteous right hand." Think about what that means.3:18 To uphold something is to keep it from falling.3:23 It's a picture of total support.3:26 It’s not a handshake.3:28 It’s a grip that WILL NOT let you go.3:31 It’s a promise that even if your own feet stumble, you will not be utterly cast down, because you are being held.3:41 Anxiety tells you that you are alone and about to fall.3:46 This promise says the exact opposite.3:50 It says you are held.3:52 Not by your own fragile grip on your circumstances, but by a righteous, powerful, and unshakable hand.4:01 The ground beneath your feet might feel unsteady today.4:06 But the hand that holds you is not.
