0:00 The average person has about seventy thousand thoughts in a single day.0:07 That's almost one thought for every second you are awake.0:13 In our last episode, Morning Roots, we talked about finding a peaceful way to ground your morning.0:23 Today's verse is an anchor for those seventy thousand thoughts, especially the ones that bring fear with them.0:34 Let's read from the book of Isaiah, chapter forty-one, verse ten.0:41 So do not fear, for I am with you;
do not be dismayed, for I am your God.0:48 I will strengthen you and help you;
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.0:57 This is one of the most powerful promises in all of scripture.1:03 And it’s not a simple platitude.1:06 It's a command, followed by a reason, followed by a series of actions.1:13 Let's start with the command.1:16 "So do not fear." This can feel impossible.1:21 When you get the bad news, or the bill you can't pay, or the worry about your family that keeps you up at night...1:32 fear is a natural response.1:35 But notice God doesn't just say "stop being afraid" and walk away.1:42 He immediately gives the reason.1:45 "For I am with you." Here's what that means for you, right now, in this moment.1:53 The instruction isn't to pretend the scary thing isn't real.2:00 It’s to remember that something else is more real.2:05 God’s presence.2:06 The fear is a feeling, but the presence is a fact.2:11 The verse is inviting you to shift your focus from the size of your fear to the reality of your companion.2:22 You are not alone in this.2:25 That is the foundational truth.2:28 Then, the verse shifts from a state of being—"I am with you"—to direct action.2:36 Look at these verbs.2:38 "I will strengthen you...2:41 and help you...2:42 I will uphold you." These are not passive wishes.2:47 They are active, specific promises.2:51 They are what God is doing, and will do, for you.2:56 Here's what that means if you feel weak today.3:01 You are not being asked to muster up courage out of thin air.3:07 You are being invited to receive it.3:10 Strength, in this verse, isn't something you build.3:16 It's something you are given.3:19 Help isn't a sign of failure; it's the sign of a relationship.3:25 You are not a solo operator who has to figure it all out.3:31 You have a helper.3:33 And finally, there's that closing image.3:37 "I will uphold you with my righteous right hand." In the ancient world, the right hand was everything.3:47 It was the hand of power, of authority, of making a covenant.3:54 It was the hand you used to fight, to bless, to save.3:59 This isn't just a generic hand.4:02 It's the hand that holds the universe together.4:07 And that is the hand that is holding you.4:11 Here's what that means when you feel like you're losing your grip.4:18 The pressure is off.4:20 You don't have to hold on to God for dear life.4:25 The promise is that He is holding on to you.4:29 You are not the one doing the upholding.4:33 You are the one being upheld.4:36 It’s a profound shift in perspective.4:40 It moves the burden of your security from your own tired hands into his capable one.4:49 So when one of those seventy thousand thoughts today is a thought of fear, or anxiety, or weakness...4:59 let this verse be your response.5:02 Let it be the anchor.5:05 The fear might be a real feeling.5:08 But the hand that holds you is an even realer reality.
