About this episode
Each morning, journey
0:00
In a Manhattan courthouse, the air is thick and old,
0:05
A story of a powerful man, and secrets to be sold.
0:11
They talk of hush money, and ledgers lined with dread,
0:16
Twelve faces in a jury box, hang on each word that's said.
0:22
From a tower made of gold, down to a witness stand,
0:27
A chapter's closing on a ruler of the land.
0:33
Oh, the headlines they fly, like the leaves in a gale,
0:38
But it's the same old story, it's the same human tale.
0:44
A fight for the crown, a cry in the street,
0:49
The bitter and the hopeful, the victory and defeat.
0:55
And I sing what I see, on this long, winding road,
1:00
Just another heavy, heavy, human load.
1:06
On the campus green, where the ivy used to climb,
1:11
The students pitch their tents, trying to buy back time.
1:17
With banners for the fallen, in a land so far away,
1:22
They raise their youthful voices, for what they need to say.
1:28
The sirens sing their answer, the lines are drawn in blue,
1:33
They say the price of speaking up is a fight to see it through.
1:39
Oh, the headlines they fly, like the leaves in a gale,
1:44
But it's the same old story, it's the same human tale.
1:50
A fight for the crown, a cry in the street,
1:56
The bitter and the hopeful, the victory and defeat.
2:01
And I sing what I see, on this long, winding road,
2:07
Just another heavy, heavy, human load.
2:12
Down in Texas and in Iowa, the sky turned jealous green,
2:18
The meanest looking twister that you ever could have seen.
2:23
It took the roofs from houses, and the church bell from its tower,
2:29
A reminder of nature's awesome, terrifying power.
2:34
And in the flattened fields, they search among the wood,
2:40
For a neighbor's photograph, to make things understood.
2:45
Some folks pray for justice, some folks pray for peace,
2:51
Some just pray the shouting's gonna finally find release.
2:56
From the courtroom to the quad, to the splintered heartland plain,
3:02
Everyone is searching for a shelter from the strain.
3:07
Oh, the headlines they fly, like the leaves in a gale,
3:13
But it's the same old story, it's the same human tale.
3:18
A fight for the crown, a cry in the street,
3:24
The bitter and the hopeful, the victory and defeat.
3:29
And I sing what I see, on this long, winding road,
3:35
Just another heavy, heavy, human load.
