About this episode
A Storyteller's Dispatch
0:00
The autumn air has turned to frost
0:03
Another season gained and lost
0:06
I walked the road to Washington
0:09
To see what foolishness was done
0:12
The gavel's dust had barely cleared
0:15
From out the man they'd all revered
0:19
Then thrown him out on his own sword
0:22
A kingdom with no ruling lord
0:25
Meanwhile in the Motor City
0:28
A different tune, and not so pretty
0:31
The picket lines held forty days
0:34
Through sunlit hours and misty haze
0:38
Against the giants, Ford and GM
0:41
A working wage, the workers' hymn
0:44
Stellantis, too, they heard the call
0:47
For a fair share before the fall
0:50
Oh, the wheel of fortune grinds and groans
0:54
On dusty roads and cobblestones
0:57
The high man falls, the low man pleads
1:00
Just planting different kinds of seeds
1:03
The story's old, the ink is new
1:06
I sing the tale for folks like you
1:09
Back in the hall of marble white
1:13
They searched for leaders in the night
1:16
One man would rise, another fall
1:19
His name could never stand up tall
1:22
They bickered, postured, drew their lines
1:25
Ignoring all the warning signs
1:29
'Til from the back, a name was passed
1:32
A speaker chosen, at long last
1:35
Oh, the wheel of fortune grinds and groans
1:38
On dusty roads and cobblestones
1:41
The high man falls, the low man pleads
1:44
Just planting different kinds of seeds
1:48
The story's old, the ink is new
1:51
I sing the tale for folks like you
1:54
The deals are struck with shaking hands
1:57
On factory floors across the lands
2:00
A tentative and fragile peace
2:04
A promise of a small increase
2:07
But the wind that blows through DC's halls
2:10
Still whispers how an empire falls
2:13
One headline at a weary time
2:16
For a single, hard-earned dime
2:19
Oh, the wheel of fortune grinds and groans
2:23
On dusty roads and cobblestones
2:26
The high man falls, the low man pleads
2:29
Just planting different kinds of seeds
2:32
The story's old, the ink is new
2:35
And I'll be back to sing for you
