About this episode
When Glimmerbrook goes dark, Pip races into the impossible to save the world—one moonbeam at a time!
0:00
The very last moonbeam in the entire town of Glimmerbrook...
0:04
went out.
0:05
It was in a jam jar on Pip's nightstand.
0:08
He’d caught it last Tuesday.
0:10
Now, it just… fizzled.
0:12
Poof.
0:13
His room went dark.
0:14
The whole house went dark.
0:16
Outside his window, the whole WORLD was dark.
0:20
No streetlights.
0:21
No sparkly rooftops.
0:23
Not a single glimmer.
0:24
Pip pulled on his boots.
0:26
He grabbed his jacket.
0:28
Something was very, very wrong.
0:31
He tiptoed outside.
0:32
The air was cold and still.
0:34
And quiet.
0:35
TOO quiet.
0:36
But then he saw it.
0:37
A faint, silvery trail on the cobblestones.
0:41
Like someone had spilled a carton of starlight.
0:45
Pip followed.
0:46
The trail led him out of town.
0:48
It led him into the Whispering Woods.
0:51
He heard a sound.
0:52
A strange sound.
0:54
A chomping.
0:54
A slurping.
0:55
A… GOBBLING.
0:56
Pip crept behind a giant mushroom and peeked.
1:00
He couldn't believe his eyes.
1:02
A creature!
1:03
It was huge and fluffy, like a giant, grumpy dust bunny.
1:08
And its belly… its belly was see-through, and it was FULL of swirling, captured moonbeams.
1:15
It was a Moon-Muncher!
1:17
And it was swallowing the last of Glimmerbrook's light.
1:21
Pip knew he couldn't fight it.
1:23
But then he looked closer.
1:25
The Moon-Muncher wasn't snarling.
1:28
It wasn't growling.
1:30
It just looked… lonely.
1:31
And that’s when Pip had the most brilliant, bonkers, wonderful idea.
1:37
He reached into his pocket.
1:39
He didn’t pull out a slingshot.
1:42
He didn’t pull out a net.
1:44
He pulled out his super-bouncy, glow-in-the-dark ball.
1:48
He wound up his arm, like a big-league pitcher.
1:52
And he THREW it.
1:53
The little green ball sailed past the Moon-Muncher’s head.
1:58
A tiny, zipping comet in the dark.
2:00
The creature stopped chewing.
2:03
Its huge, googly eyes got even wider.
2:06
It watched the ball bounce once… twice… and land with a soft plop.
2:11
The Moon-Muncher wiggled.
2:13
It jiggled.
2:14
It let out a happy little gurgle.
2:16
And then it opened its mouth and gave the biggest, most spectacular, most shimmery-silver BURP in the history of the world!
2:26
WHOOSH!
2:27
Out flew every single moonbeam.
2:29
They shot into the sky like a firework display.
2:33
They zipped back to Glimmerbrook, relighting every lamp, every window, every single shiny doorknob.
2:41
The Moon-Muncher, now much smaller and looking much happier, trotted over and nudged the glowing ball with its nose.
2:50
Pip grinned.
2:51
The creature didn't want to eat the light.
2:55
It just wanted to play.
2:56
All night long, in the restored glow of a thousand moonbeams, a boy and a monster played a simple game of fetch.
3:05
And for the first time in a long time, neither one of them was lonely at all.
