0:00 Oracle laid off thirty thousand people today.0:04 Or at least, that’s what a story that rocketed to the top of Hacker News claimed, before everyone realized the date is April first.0:16 Welcome to the one day a year where the tech industry’s capacity for self-parody gets put to the test.0:26 So while everyone was busy getting fooled by that, the source code for Anthropic's Claude AI actually—or maybe—leaked.0:37 Someone found what looks like the full frontend source code tucked away in a map file on the public NPM registry.0:48 It’s full of incredible developer comments, so-called “frustration regexes,” and even a feature flag for an “undercover mode.” Then there's Microsoft, which just updated the terms of service for its main Copilot product to say it's “for entertainment purposes only.” No, that's not a joke.1:16 It's a real legal disclaimer for the AI they're putting in Windows.1:22 It's the corporate equivalent of saying “I was just kidding… unless?” And underneath all the pranks and weirdness, the real world keeps happening.1:36 U.S.1:37 stocks are apparently on track for their worst quarter in almost four years, which adds a certain… spice… to watching thirty thousand fake layoffs get debated seriously for hours.1:54 Okay let's go back to the Oracle and Claude stories, because they're two sides of the same very weird, very 2026 coin.2:05 The Oracle layoff story was a straight-up hoax.2:10 It spread like wildfire because it felt true.2:14 Oracle has this reputation—deserved or not—for being ruthless.2:20 So when a link says “Oracle slashes 30k jobs,” nobody even thought to check the source.2:28 They just jumped straight into the comments to talk about Larry Ellison.2:35 Where have we seen this before?2:38 It’s the exact same pattern as the classic email forward from the nineties.2:45 A story that confirms your biases, packaged just plausibly enough to share without thinking.2:54 The technology changed from email to Hacker News, but the human brain didn't.3:01 But the Claude leak… that’s different.3:05 This isn't a simple hoax.3:07 It's either a catastrophic, amateur-hour mistake by a multi-billion-dollar AI company, or it's one of the most elaborate April Fool's pranks ever coded.3:22 The analysis posted is deep.3:25 It points to code that seems to be written by AI, managed by developers who don't code, and filled with comments that suggest a team under massive pressure.3:40 If it's real, it's just the latest version of developers accidentally pushing secret API keys to a public GitHub repo.3:51 A classic “move fast and break things” own-goal.3:55 But if it's a prank?3:57 It shows how opaque these systems are.4:01 We're so desperate to know what's inside the AI black box that a detailed-enough fake can pass for reality.4:11 When a screw-up and a satire look identical, it says more about the system than the people.4:20 So what does this all set up?4:23 This week, the line between a real corporate blunder and a well-executed prank completely vanished.4:32 We're in an era where a company's actual legal terms sound like a joke, and a fake disaster story feels more real than the truth.4:45 The industry isn't just building confusing technology; it's becoming one.
