0:00 The Seattle Seahawks have just been sold to a group led by the family of a minority owner of the San Francisco 49ers.0:07 Last week we were talking about the human side of the game with Chris Johnson's health and locker room buzz, but this week, the business side just took over the entire conversation.0:17 We’re not talking about a player trade.0:20 We’re talking about a whole FRANCHISE.0:22 Okay, so while Seattle is processing that bombshell, the rest of the league is staring down a hard deadline.0:29 Wednesday.0:29 July fifteenth.0:30 Four p.m.0:31 New York time.0:31 That is the absolute last second for teams to sign their franchise-tagged players to a multi-year deal.0:38 After that, it’s a one-year contract, take it or leave it, and you can’t talk extension again until January.0:44 So if you're a GM, the clock is ticking LOUD.0:47 You have about three days to decide if that guy is your future, or just your present.0:52 And while the front offices are sweating that out, the rookies are already starting to sweat on the field.0:58 Camps are officially opening up for first-year players across the league this week.1:03 This is it.1:04 The seven days they get on the grass before the veterans show up and the whole vibe changes.1:10 For some of these kids, it's the first time they're putting on a helmet as a professional football player.1:16 The dream is real, and so is the playbook they just got handed.1:20 And speaking of the next generation, you gotta hear this.1:23 An eight-and-under team from Wisconsin, the Howard-Suamico Falcons, just won their regional tournament.1:29 They're going to the NFL Flag National Championships.1:33 Their coach, Chris LeCloux, said it was a "once in a lifetime" thing, that they just went to compete and have fun.1:39 Well, they did more than that.1:41 They won the whole damn thing.1:43 It’s a great reminder that for all the billions changing hands at the top, the game still starts right there.1:50 So let's get back to Seattle.1:51 The Paul G.1:52 Allen estate is out.1:53 A group led by the Khosla family is in.1:56 And that group includes Vinod Khosla, who — and this is the part that makes you go… huh — is a minority owner of the 49ers.2:03 A DIVISION RIVAL.2:04 Now, the league will have to sort out the specifics of that conflict of interest, but the deal is agreed to.2:11 The team is sold.2:12 This isn't a rumor; it's a seismic shift in the NFC West.2:15 Think about what this means.2:17 For years, the Seahawks have had this identity baked in from the top.2:21 Now?2:21 It’s a complete unknown.2:23 Every single person in that building, from the GM to the equipment manager, is suddenly working for a new boss.2:29 A boss with ties to the team you’re supposed to hate more than anyone else.2:34 And here’s where it gets complicated on the field.2:37 We’ve been hearing chatter out of Seattle that they’re changing the offense this year.2:42 They want to use their tight ends more.2:44 They’re putting a lot of faith in guys like JSN, and hoping young players like Shahid and Horton can step up and prevent any kind of regression.2:53 But now you have to ask a different question.2:56 Are they making these changes to win games, or are they making them to impress the new ownership?3:01 Every play call, every personnel grouping, is suddenly going to be viewed through this new lens.3:07 Is this the coach’s plan, or is it an audition?3:10 That’s a pressure that wasn't there last week.3:13 The entire dynamic of the NFC West just changed.3:16 The rivalry with the 49ers was already one of the best in the league.3:20 Now it has this bizarre, almost Shakespearean-level family drama layered on top of it.3:25 It’s not just team versus team anymore.3:27 It’s owner versus… well, owner.3:29 The org chart in Seattle just got redrawn with a pen from Silicon Valley.3:34 But on September ninth, when the Patriots come to Lumen Field for the season opener, none of that boardroom stuff is going to matter.3:42 The only thing that will matter is the eleven guys on the field.3:46 That’s the part of the game that can’t be bought.
