0:00 Giants defensive lineman Roy Robertson-Harris's season is over before it even started — he tore his Achilles during an OTA workout on May twenty-first.0:22 Last week, in Episode Four, we talked about how quiet things were in New York as teams settled in for the offseason.0:38 That quiet just ended, HARD.0:42 The league is mostly in a holding pattern, but the Giants are suddenly a five-alarm fire in May.0:56 The Robertson-Harris injury is a brutal blow to their defensive line depth, a season-ending injury from a non-contact drill.1:15 That’s the kind of bad luck that makes a front office start sweating.1:25 And it’s not even their biggest problem.1:30 Elsewhere, if you're absolutely desperate for some football, the only game on the books was CFL preseason.1:46 The Edmonton Elks handled the BC Lions thirty-four to sixteen.1:55 So, yeah.1:56 It’s that time of year.2:00 No major trades have dropped, no other blockbuster signings.2:08 All eyes, and I mean ALL eyes, are on what’s happening in East Rutherford.2:19 Because on top of the injuries, there was a public spat between quarterback Jaxson Dart and wide receiver Abdul Carter.2:36 Carter called out Dart for attending a political rally, things got tense online, and suddenly the "team chemistry" narrative was in jeopardy.2:57 Offensive tackle Jermaine Eluemunor had to jump on social media and basically tell everyone to calm down and, in his words, “focus on the Patriots.” The official line is that Dart and Carter have patched things up privately.3:30 We’ll see.3:31 These things have a way of lingering.3:36 But all of this...3:39 the injury, the locker room drama...3:44 it's all context for the real story.3:50 Let's dive into what's really going on with the Giants, because this is a mess.4:01 It starts with Malik Nabers.4:05 The star rookie receiver is recovering from a knee procedure.4:14 They called it a "cleanup" to remove scar tissue, which sounds routine.4:24 But then Coach John Harbaugh comes out on May twenty-first and says it is, quote, "impossible to predict" when Nabers will be back.4:43 He might even miss Week One against the Cowboys.4:50 That’s not a cleanup.4:54 That’s a crisis.4:56 When your top receiver is a huge question mark, you look at your depth.5:06 And with Darius Slayton also absent from OTAs, guys like Malachi Fields, Calvin Austin, and Darnell Mooney are getting all the first-team reps.5:27 They're trying to build chemistry with a quarterback who was just in a public feud with another receiver.5:42 You see how this starts to stack?5:47 It’s one domino after another.5:51 A key defensive lineman is gone for the year.5:58 Your top offensive weapon is sidelined indefinitely.6:06 Your locker room has public fractures.6:11 So what do you do?6:14 You look for a veteran.6:17 You look for a spark.6:20 And suddenly, Odell Beckham Jr.’s phone starts ringing.6:28 Or at least, he’s acting like it is.6:33 OBJ is posting cryptic messages on social media… stuff like, “Shoulda just left me alone… u poked the Tiger… can’t wait.” This is not a coincidence.6:55 He’s thirty-three, he’s looking for a team, and the Giants are the team that drafted him.7:08 Harbaugh, who coached him in Baltimore, calls him one of his “favorite people” and says he “really liked” what he saw in Odell’s April workout.7:29 The door is wide open.7:32 So why haven't they signed him?7:37 Here's the catch they won't talk about on the major networks.7:45 The front office just spent the entire offseason getting younger and cheaper at wide receiver.7:59 They brought in Austin and Mooney.8:04 They drafted Fields.8:07 Committing to Odell, even on a team-friendly deal, goes against that entire strategy.8:19 It feels like a panic move.8:23 A move you make when your rookie star’s knee is a bigger problem than you’re letting on.8:36 Harbaugh wants him.8:39 The team might need him.8:42 But the front office is hesitating, saying they’ll let it play out into training camp.8:55 The Giants can either sign a ghost from their past to fix a problem in their present, or they can trust the future they just drafted.9:14 What they decide tells us everything about who they think they are right now.
