0:00 Ukraine just hit over one hundred and thirty-six Russian vessels in the Sea of Azov.0:05 In ten days.0:06 In Episode eighty-two we talked about power vacuums.0:09 This is what it looks like when someone fills one with fire.0:13 Kyiv’s long-range strikes are systematically dismantling Russia’s maritime logistics, choking off fuel to Crimea and forcing a halt to shipping through the Don-Azov channel.0:25 This isn't just a battle.0:26 It’s a direct assault on Russia’s war economy, and the West is watching closely.0:32 Here’s what else is moving.0:33 A new trilateral is forming right now between the European Union, Japan, and South Korea.0:39 They are formalizing cooperation on everything from trade and tech to security.0:44 It’s a major realignment.0:46 A direct response to shared geopolitical threats, and a signal that they aren't just waiting for Washington to set the agenda.0:54 Meanwhile, the U.S.0:56 and China are sending completely contradictory signals.0:59 Just as Beijing hints it might restore U.S.1:02 trade privileges for Hong Kong—a potential thaw after the Trump-Xi meeting two months ago—President Trump delivers a nearly thirty-minute prime-time speech savaging China's policies.1:14 The rivalry is hot, but the money is still talking.1:17 And it’s not just the big powers.1:20 Pakistan is making a calculated play, spending over a million dollars in Washington to leverage its role mediating the Iran conflict into deeper U.S.1:29 security and investment ties.1:31 This comes as it negotiates an expanded defense pact with Kuwait.1:36 It’s a classic middle-power move—turning regional influence into global capital.1:41 This is the new reality, where countries like Brazil, India, Indonesia, and Türkiye are increasingly shaping outcomes on their own terms.1:50 So let’s go deeper on that new trilateral, the one between Brussels, Tokyo, and Seoul.1:56 On the surface, it’s a logical step.1:58 These are economic giants facing similar pressures.2:01 But here’s the turn.2:03 The entire arrangement still depends on American power.2:06 Specifically, the U.S.2:08 nuclear umbrella and NATO.2:09 And that’s where the analysis gets sharp.2:12 A recent report from The Diplomat put it perfectly: "Dependence on U.S.2:17 power now coexists with uncertainty about U.S.2:20 policy." Think about that.2:21 For seventy years, the dilemma for allies was either abandonment—the U.S.2:26 won't show up—or entrapment—the U.S.2:29 drags you into a fight.2:30 The analysis says those are no longer opposites.2:33 They are happening at the SAME time.2:36 Allies worry you'll abandon them in one crisis, and entrap them in another.2:41 So this trilateral isn't just about strength.2:44 It’s about building a safety net.2:46 It’s allies hedging their bets against an unpredictable America.2:50 It is, as one expert put it, "more feasible—and more important—than ever before." Now, let's look back at the U.S.2:58 and China.2:58 The hint of restoring Hong Kong's trade status is NOT a small thing.3:03 It suggests powerful factions inside Beijing want to de-escalate the economic conflict.3:08 But then Trump’s speech lands like a grenade.3:11 What does this tell you?3:13 It tells you the U.S.-China relationship isn't a single chess game.3:17 It's a dozen different games being played on the same board, by different players, all at once.3:24 Some are playing for trade access.3:26 Others are playing for military dominance.3:29 And they aren't coordinating.3:31 The tension you see isn't a negotiating tactic.3:34 It’s the sound of a superpower that hasn’t decided which game it actually wants to win.3:39 So when you see Ukraine methodically picking apart Russia’s supply lines, and you see old allies building new pacts without Washington in the room, it's all part of the same story.3:51 The era of a single, central organizing principle for global power is over.3:56 What’s replacing it is a world of distributed risk, distributed alliances, and distributed lethality.4:03 Everyone is building their own lifeboats.
