0:00 President Trump called off strikes on Iran just hours before they were set to launch.0:05 In episode ninety-eight, "Power Shifts Unveiled," we tracked the world holding its breath as the US and Iran moved to the absolute brink.0:14 Today, that brink has a bridge.0:16 Negotiations to de-escalate are set to resume this very morning, Monday, August third.0:22 This is not a drill.0:23 This is a full-scale reversal.0:25 The official story is that Trump pulled back after being told a deal framework was in place.0:31 But the real story is who got him to pull back.0:34 The push for de-escalation didn't come from Europe.0:37 It didn't come from the UN.0:39 It came from Riyadh.0:40 Specifically, from Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.0:44 He was the one working the phones, advocating for a diplomatic off-ramp.0:49 Now, this comes as Israel continues its own operations.0:52 The IDF reports eliminating a Hamas Nukhba commander in Gaza, even as talks for Hamas's disarmament continue.0:59 There are even whispers that Palestinian Islamic Jihad might be willing to lay down its arms.1:05 The entire region is a chessboard, and a major piece just moved in a completely unexpected direction.1:12 But while Tehran publicly denies any deal exists, Trump is claiming victory.1:17 He says the framework will guarantee the "immediate, complete, and total opening" of the Strait of Hormuz and an end to Iran's nuclear threat.1:26 Those are massive claims.1:28 And the gap between what Washington says and what Tehran admits is where this whole thing could still fall apart.1:35 Okay.1:35 Let's get into what really happened here.1:38 Because this is not about Donald Trump changing his mind.1:42 This is about Mohammed bin Salman changing the entire game.1:46 For years, the central dynamic in the Middle East was simple: Saudi Arabia and the US on one side, Iran on the other.1:53 That was the axis.1:54 That axis just broke.1:56 Here's what you have to understand about the Crown Prince.1:59 He is not sentimental.2:01 He is a pragmatist.2:02 He looked at the map and saw the United States ready to stumble into a war it couldn't afford and its public didn't want.2:10 He saw Israel tied down in protracted conflicts in both Gaza and Lebanon.2:15 And he saw an opportunity.2:16 Not to make friends with Iran, but to reposition Saudi Arabia as the indispensable power broker in the Gulf.2:23 The one capital that can talk to Tehran and Washington.2:27 Think about the leverage this gives him.2:30 By stepping in to mediate, he makes himself the central node.2:34 Any communication, any deal, has to run through Riyadh.2:37 He’s not just influencing American policy anymore; he is actively writing it.2:42 He handed Donald Trump a perfect political victory: the president who is tough on Iran, but smart enough to avoid a war.2:50 Trump gets to campaign on being a master dealmaker without a single shot being fired.2:55 It's a win-win for them.2:57 But the person who truly wins is MBS.2:59 He has effectively sidelined the hardliners in both Washington and Tehran.3:04 He’s demonstrated that regional problems can have regional solutions, with Saudi Arabia—not the US—in the lead.3:11 This wasn't just about stopping a few missile strikes.3:15 This was a calculated move to shift the center of gravity in the Middle East.3:20 It was a declaration that Saudi Arabia is no longer just a client state buying American weapons.3:26 It is a power in its own right, with its own agenda.3:30 And that agenda is now driving events.3:32 So what happens today in those resumed negotiations?3:35 The details of the deal—the shipping lanes, the nuclear inspections—are almost secondary.3:41 The real negotiation already happened over the weekend, and it wasn't between the US and Iran.3:47 It was about establishing a new order.3:50 The US is now, in a way, a passenger in a diplomatic process being driven from the Gulf itself.3:56 The core difference today is not that war is off the table.4:00 The difference is WHO took it off the table.4:03 And that changes everything.
