0:00 President Trump just waived sanctions on Russian oil and gas.0:04 The penalties were set to take effect under a law signed only last month.0:09 In episode 174, we talked about diplomatic fault lines.0:13 One of them just became a chasm.0:16 This isn't just a policy shift.0:18 It's a signal to every capital in the world that America's commitments are now conditional.0:24 That’s the lead, but it’s not the only fire on the map.0:28 While Washington re-writes its Russia policy, the world’s most critical oil chokepoint is burning.0:36 Three oil tankers were attacked near the Strait of Hormuz.0:40 Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps claims one hit a mine.0:44 The U.S.0:44 Central Command denies it, blaming projectile attacks.0:48 The truth is less important than the effect: fear is back in the market.0:53 In Asia, a cautious step back from the brink.0:57 After years of tension, China and India just finalized an eight-point agreement to de-escalate along their Himalayan border.1:06 Patrols are being restored around Depsang and Demchok.1:10 It's not friendship.1:11 It's managed rivalry, an attempt to keep a cold war from turning hot.1:16 Meanwhile, Taiwan is making its own move.1:19 The National Security Chief, Joseph Wu, just called for a formal technology alliance with Europe.1:26 His words were precise.1:28 He called China the “decisive enabler of Russia’s war in Ukraine,” directly linking security in the Indo-Pacific to the fight in Europe.1:38 And in the occupied West Bank, a European delegation—including officials from France, Belgium, and Poland—was physically attacked by masked Israeli settlers.1:49 A French mayor was assaulted.1:51 Vehicles were damaged.1:53 It’s a brazen act against friendly diplomats, showing just how far the breakdown of order has gone.2:00 Finally, the International Monetary Fund is sounding the alarm.2:05 Meeting this week, its members warned that escalating conflicts are disrupting trade, pushing up energy prices, and threatening food security for millions.2:16 They see the same fragmentation we do.2:19 They’re just counting the cost in dollars and cents.2:22 Let’s go back to that sanctions waiver.2:25 Because what happened on October sixteenth changes the calculus for everyone.2:31 Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy immediately called the move “wrong,” warning it would only embolden Moscow.2:39 He’s now pleading with European leaders for nearly eighty billion dollars in additional financing.2:46 His warning was stark.2:48 "If we fall," he said, "twenty million Ukrainians will come to Europe." That is not a policy proposal.2:55 It is a statement of fact.2:57 Of course, in Moscow, they’re celebrating.3:00 Russia’s investment envoy, Kirill Dmitriev, called it “a truly historic moment.” He’s not wrong.3:07 He admitted the sanctions would have brought ALL economic cooperation between Russia and the United States to a halt.3:16 Now, that door is wide open again.3:18 So, Europe is caught in the middle.3:21 The European Council President, Antonio Costa, was blunt: “This is no time to relieve Russia’s sanctions.” But that unity is cracking.3:31 Leaders in Slovakia and Bulgaria are already praising Trump’s move, signaling they’re ready to re-engage with Moscow.3:39 Trump’s decision gives them the political cover they’ve been waiting for.3:44 But here’s what nobody is saying out loud.3:47 The United States has not completely abandoned Ukraine.3:51 Intelligence sharing continues.3:54 And the arrangement where Europe pays for American weapons delivered to Kyiv is still working.4:00 This isn't a total withdrawal.4:03 It’s a renegotiation of the terms of the alliance, in real time.4:07 Washington is shifting the financial burden of Ukraine’s defense squarely onto Europe’s shoulders, while carving out its own economic opening with Russia.4:18 It’s a brutal, transactional piece of statecraft.4:22 And as this unfolds, the other energy front is heating up.4:26 The attacks in the Strait of Hormuz are more than just isolated incidents.4:32 The U.K.4:32 Maritime Trade Operations office reports at least twelve attacks in the last week alone.4:39 And they add a chilling note: the majority of vessels attacked are refusing to report it.4:45 So the real number is MUCH higher.4:48 Iran’s IRGC has now claimed responsibility for hitting a third supertanker, issuing a direct threat.4:55 Any vessel cooperating with the “American terrorist army,” they said, would face a “firm response.” This is not a proxy war.5:04 This is a state, on the record, threatening global commerce at its most vulnerable point.5:10 The era of predictable alliances is over.5:13 The post-war consensus is dead.5:16 From Washington to the Strait of Hormuz, the new doctrine is simple: every nation for itself.5:22 And the price of that doctrine is being paid right now in Ukrainian trenches and on the decks of burning tankers.
