0:00 The most dangerous thing in the woods was not the wolf.0:04 It was the girl in the red cloak.0:07 Last week on our show, we saw classic stories get their endings completely rewritten.0:14 This week, we’re taking the most famous cautionary tale of all… and revealing it was never a warning.0:23 It was a cover-up.0:24 Once upon a time, there was a girl who walked the woods every day.0:30 But she wasn't skipping.0:32 She was patrolling.0:34 The basket she carried didn't hold wine and cake.0:38 It held poultices for wounded sprites and silver wire to mend broken ley lines.0:45 Her red cloak wasn't a fashion statement.0:48 It was the uniform of a warden.0:51 And she was very, very good at her job.0:54 The forest was her responsibility.0:57 So when she found the Guardian, she knew something was deeply wrong.1:03 He wasn't really a wolf.1:05 Not always.1:06 Sometimes he was a great horned owl, or a shadow that moved between the trees.1:12 He was the forest's oldest protector, and he was bleeding.1:17 A dark, jagged wound pulsed on his side, smelling of burnt sugar and greed.1:24 He nudged her with his great head, and an image flooded her mind: a cottage.1:30 A spinning wheel.1:32 And her grandmother's smiling face.1:35 The message was clear.1:36 The threat wasn't a beast in the woods.1:40 It was family.1:41 Red ran.1:42 Not from fear.1:43 From fury.1:44 She burst into the cottage without knocking.1:47 "Grandmother," she said, her voice dangerously calm.1:52 "What have you done?" The old woman sat in her chair, a picture of innocence.1:58 "Oh, my dear!1:59 You startled me.2:01 Come give your granny a kiss." Red didn't move.2:05 "What big eyes you have, Grandmother." A slow, cold smile spread across the old woman's face.2:13 "The better to see the forest's magic, my dear." "And what big hands you have." "The better to GRASP it with." And with that, the illusion shattered.2:25 The cozy cottage dissolved into a dark chamber of twisting roots and glowing, parasitic runes carved into the floor.2:35 Her grandmother wasn't a frail old woman.2:39 She was a sorceress, siphoning the very life from the woods, and the Guardian had tried to stop her.2:47 The wolf wasn't the villain.2:50 He was the hero.2:51 Red didn't scream for a woodsman.2:54 She WAS the woodsman.2:56 She was the hunter.2:57 She was everything the forest needed.3:00 She slammed her basket onto the floor.3:04 But instead of cake, out rolled seeds of slumber-thorn and roots of choke-ivy.3:10 She whistled a sharp, clear note—a command the ancient trees understood.3:16 Roots erupted from the floorboards, wrapping around the old woman's chair, severing her connection to the runes.3:26 The stolen magic flooded back out of her, pouring into the woods in a wave of green and gold light.3:34 The storytellers got it wrong.3:37 Red Riding Hood never needed saving.3:40 She was the one who did the saving.3:43 And as the Guardian limped to her side, whole and healthy again, they stood together.3:50 Not a girl and a monster.3:52 But partners.3:53 The new guardians of a forest that was finally, truly safe.
