0:00 President Trump signed two executive orders yesterday targeting birthright citizenship.0:05 In our last briefing, we talked about the major policy shifts shaping your world in 2026.0:10 Well, this isn't just a shift.0:12 This is a direct challenge to a 150-year-old constitutional guarantee, signed just five weeks after the Supreme Court explicitly told him NO.0:20 The fight over the 14th Amendment is dominating the U.S.0:24 narrative, but the world isn’t waiting.0:26 Today in Mecca, a new power bloc is forming.0:29 Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and Turkey are expected to sign a major defense agreement, shifting alliances in the Middle East.0:36 Meanwhile, the old conflicts grind on.0:38 Ukraine is making urgent new pleas for air defense systems as it continues to fight.0:43 And in Israel, fresh allegations of detainee abuse are inflaming regional tensions.0:48 These global pressures are the backdrop for an America increasingly focused inward, on a battle over the very definition of who gets to be an American.0:57 So let's go deeper on that battle, because the details are everything.1:01 On June 30th, the Supreme Court ruled 6-to-3 against the President's last attempt to curb birthright citizenship.1:08 They reaffirmed the 14th Amendment.1:10 Case closed, right?1:11 Wrong.1:12 Trump called the ruling "very unfair" and promised to find another way.1:16 Yesterday, we saw it.1:17 Two new executive orders.1:19 The White House is framing this as a crackdown on so-called "birth tourism." That's when foreign nationals travel to the U.S.1:26 specifically to have a child who will then be an American citizen.1:30 White House aide Stephen Miller was blunt at the signing: "This practice of birth tourism is now prohibited as of the signing of this order." Now, let's use the numbers.1:40 How big is this problem?1:42 One analysis from the Center for Immigration Studies estimated between 20,000 and 25,000 cases of birth tourism in a single year.1:49 That sounds like a lot.1:51 But in 2025, there were 3.6 MILLION births in the United States.1:54 So we are talking about a fraction of one percent of all births.1:58 Here's the real issue.2:00 Legal experts are almost unanimous on this.2:02 An executive order CANNOT override the Constitution.2:05 The ACLU's Cody Wofsy put it plainly: "The Supreme Court already decided this issue...2:10 No additional executive order can change the meaning of the Constitution." So if the orders are likely to be struck down in court—and they will be challenged, immediately—what is the point?2:22 The point is the FIGHT.2:23 This isn't about policy; it's about politics.2:26 It's about creating a constitutional conflict.2:29 The orders are designed to force the courts to act again, to keep the issue in the headlines, and to signal to the President's base that he is fighting for them, even against the judiciary.2:40 Deborah Fleischaker from UnidosUS called the orders "nothing more than an attempt to get around that ruling." She's right.2:47 But it's also a strategy.2:49 It's an attempt to make the Supreme Court's authority seem like just another political opinion, one that can be challenged and re-litigated in the court of public opinion.2:59 The orders also target children of foreign officials and could affect U.S.3:03 territories.3:04 But the central target is the 14th Amendment itself.3:07 This move creates chaos for immigrant families and sets up another brutal legal battle.3:12 It's a test of the separation of powers, designed to see how far executive authority can be pushed before it breaks.3:19 The orders themselves may be legally toothless.3:22 But the signal is the point.3:24 It’s a declaration that for this White House, a Supreme Court defeat isn't the end of the road.3:29 It’s just the start of the next war.
