0:00 The 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act became law today, July eleventh.0:04 In yesterday's essential briefing, we track the day-to-day.0:08 Today, a piece of that daily churn just made history.0:11 This is the first major federal action on housing supply in a generation.0:16 But what’s inside the bill is where the real story is.0:19 Of course, the news cycle never stops at one story.0:22 There are dozens of headlines today.0:24 Only three will change how you think about the economy.0:28 First, that housing bill.0:29 Officially, it’s about using planning-led solutions to tackle the housing crisis.0:35 Bipartisan support, celebrated by the American Planning Association.0:39 A big deal on its own.0:40 Second, a new analysis from MarketWatch today makes a provocative claim: the U.S.0:45 stock market is now ‘too big to fail’.0:48 The argument is that protracted bear markets may be a thing of the past.0:52 We’ll dig into what that means for your money.0:55 And third, Bitcoin is holding steady above sixty-four thousand dollars.1:00 This isn't just market noise.1:01 The reason for the stability is a policy bomb hidden inside that exact same housing bill that just became law.1:08 That’s the sweep.1:09 Now for the deep dive.1:11 Okay.1:11 Let's start with the bill itself.1:13 The 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act.1:16 It passed with overwhelming bipartisan support because everyone agrees there's a housing crisis.1:22 Its official goal is to give communities new tools to increase housing supply, improve affordability, and expand choice.1:29 It's all about zoning reform, cutting red tape, and smarter local planning.1:34 For the millions of Americans struggling with rent or trying to buy a home, this is supposed to be a step in the right direction.1:42 But here’s the catch.1:43 This wasn't just about housing.1:45 Tucked inside this bill was a provision that has NOTHING to do with two-by-fours or foundations.1:51 A four-year ban on a U.S.1:53 central bank digital currency.1:55 Here's how it happened.1:56 The bill landed on President Trump's desk.1:59 He declined to sign it, but he also declined to veto it.2:02 Under the constitution, that means it automatically became law today.2:07 And with it, this ban on a so-called "digital dollar" is now official U.S.2:11 policy until 2030.2:13 This is a massive, MASSIVE win for the cryptocurrency industry, which sees a government-run digital currency as its ultimate competitor.2:21 They didn't need to pass a standalone crypto bill through a divided Congress.2:26 They just needed one sentence hidden on page one thousand of a must-pass housing initiative.2:32 That’s how the game is played in Washington.2:35 While lawmakers were playing three-dimensional chess with policy, Wall Street was having a revelation of its own.2:42 That MarketWatch piece argues the U.S.2:44 stock market has become ‘too big to fail’.2:47 What does that actually MEAN?2:49 It means that after decades of pushing Americans into 401(k)s and IRAs, so much of the nation's household wealth is now tied up in the S&P 500 that the federal government simply cannot afford a protracted, 2008-style collapse.3:03 Think about it.3:04 The political and social fallout from wiping out the retirement savings of fifty percent of the country would be catastrophic.3:12 So the theory goes that the era of multi-year bear markets… is over.3:16 The government and the Federal Reserve will be forced to step in sooner, and with more force, to prevent a true meltdown.3:24 This isn't a guarantee that stocks only go up.3:26 But it is a fundamental CHANGE in the risk calculation for every single investor.3:32 It suggests the floor is much higher, and much harder, than it used to be.3:36 So what's different today that wasn't true yesterday?3:40 A housing bill just became law.3:42 But that's not the story.3:43 The story is the quiet insertion of national crypto policy into that bill.3:48 The story is the dawning realization that the stock market has become so intertwined with the nation’s financial health that it’s now a piece of critical infrastructure, implicitly backed by the government.4:01 Federal power isn't just about what you see them do.4:04 It's about the rules they write into the margins, and the systems that have grown too large for them to allow to break.
