0:00 Thirty-two percent.0:01 That's Donald Trump's new approval rating on the economy.0:04 In our last briefing, we talked about the major power shifts shaping America today.0:09 Well, here's the newest one, and it's hitting the White House directly.0:14 That thirty-two percent number isn't just a dip.0:17 It's a crater.0:18 Trump started his second term with forty percent approval on the economy.0:22 Now, sixty-seven percent of the country disapproves.0:25 That's not a partisan divide.0:27 That is a national CONSENSUS.0:29 And it’s a consensus built on a foundation of some very hard, very cold numbers.0:34 So, what's driving this?0:35 It's not just a feeling.0:37 It’s the math.0:38 The U.S.0:38 federal debt is now on a trajectory to hit fifty trillion dollars by 2029.0:43 Let me say that again.0:44 Fifty.0:45 Trillion.0:45 Dollars.0:46 And that isn't some far-off problem.0:48 For this fiscal year—for 2026—the federal deficit is projected to be one point nine trillion dollars.0:54 That's the gap between what the government spends and what it takes in.0:58 One year.0:59 Almost two trillion dollars of new debt.1:01 These are numbers so large they start to lose meaning.1:05 But their effect is very, very real.1:07 They are a constant, grinding pressure on the economy.1:10 They create uncertainty.1:12 They make everything more expensive.1:14 And you are feeling it.1:16 This is the reality behind that thirty-two percent approval rating.1:20 Okay, but here's the turn.1:21 It's no longer just an American problem.1:24 The rest of the world is starting to react to these numbers.1:27 New surveys just dropped showing central banks—the big, state-level financial institutions in other countries—are actively changing their strategy.1:37 They are ditching the dollar.1:38 They are buying more gold.1:40 For decades, the U.S.1:41 dollar has been the world's reserve currency.1:44 The default.1:45 The safe haven.1:46 That status is what has allowed the U.S.1:48 to run up these enormous deficits without immediate, catastrophic consequences.1:53 It's been called America's "exorbitant privilege." And that privilege is now being questioned.1:59 Not by rivals shouting on a stage, but by quiet, sober-minded bankers moving massive amounts of money out of dollars and into a physical asset they can hold in a vault.2:09 This is a slow-motion tectonic shift.2:12 When other countries lose faith in the dollar, they are losing faith in America's ability to manage its own finances.2:19 They see the fifty trillion dollar projection.2:22 They see the two trillion dollar annual deficits.2:25 And they are making a calculated decision to de-risk.2:28 To reduce their exposure to one single country's political and economic dysfunction.2:33 Each bar of gold that a foreign central bank buys is a vote of no-confidence in the U.S.2:39 Treasury bond.2:40 It's a bet that the future value of the dollar is less certain than the future value of a lump of metal.2:46 And when those bets start piling up, they create their own reality.2:50 It makes it more expensive for America to borrow, which makes the deficit worse, which further spooks investors.2:57 It’s a feedback loop.2:58 So now you have three stories that are actually one story.3:02 You have a crisis of confidence at home, with voters losing faith in the administration's economic leadership.3:09 You have a structural debt crisis that no one in Washington has a credible plan to solve.3:14 And now, you have a budding crisis of confidence abroad, as the world's financial managers quietly head for the exits.3:22 The White House is still trying to fight this on a political level.3:26 You hear them talking about delivering on promises to lower drug prices, trying to show they're helping the American patient.3:33 But you can't spin your way out of fifty trillion dollars in debt.3:38 You can't tweet away the decisions of global central banks.3:41 The scale of the problem is now outpacing the scale of the politics.3:45 Political promises are light.3:47 The math is heavy.3:48 And right now, the math is winning.
