0:00 Oil prices surged more than seven percent today.0:03 That's a two-week high, and it happened the moment the U.S.0:06 confirmed new airstrikes against Iran.0:09 In our last briefing, we reported President Trump had ended the ceasefire.0:13 Today, he confirmed the United States would, quote, 'very probably attack Iran hard again.' The interim peace deal is dead.0:21 But here's the turn.0:22 Despite that, U.S.0:23 markets climbed.0:24 The S&P 500 rose nearly half a percent, and the Nasdaq gained almost point-seven.0:29 The VIX—the market's fear gauge—actually FELL.0:32 In corporate news, the battle over memory chip patents just escalated.0:37 Netlist, a small California firm, has now racked up 866 million dollars in jury awards against giants like Samsung.0:44 This week, they expanded their legal fight, filing new infringement complaints against Google, Nvidia, and Broadcom.0:51 In the resource sector, Fortuna Mining reported steady production and a massive eighty-million-dollar share buyback in the second quarter.1:00 More importantly, they unveiled a feasibility study for a new gold project in Senegal with a projected one-billion-dollar value and a sixty-percent internal rate of return.1:11 Further down the pipeline, Relevant Gold just launched a fully-funded drill program in Wyoming, after securing a new five-year exploration permit.1:20 And finally, a note on the economy.1:22 New forecasts show Canada's GDP growth slowing to just half a percent this year, citing trade uncertainty with the U.S.1:30 and the conflict in the Middle East as major headwinds.1:33 So, let's unpack two things here that don't seem to add up.1:37 First, the market.1:38 Why are stocks going UP while oil is surging and the U.S.1:41 is launching attacks in the Strait of Hormuz?1:44 The conventional wisdom says geopolitical risk is bad for business.1:48 But what you're seeing today is a market that has already priced in a certain level of chaos.1:54 The Dow plunged last week on the initial news.1:57 Today's gains are a correction, driven by traders who see the conflict as contained, for now.2:03 The VIX falling nearly two percent tells the story.2:06 The panic has subsided, replaced by a cold calculation.2:10 The bet on Wall Street is that this remains a limited, targeted conflict, not a full-scale war that would truly disrupt global supply chains.2:19 It's a high-stakes gamble, and it's the single biggest disconnect between Washington's rhetoric and the market's reality.2:26 Now, let's turn to that Netlist story.2:29 Because this isn't just another patent lawsuit.2:31 This is a fundamental shift.2:33 For years, Netlist has claimed that major tech companies have been using its patented memory module technology without paying for it.2:42 For years, they were ignored.2:43 What changed?2:44 The courts.2:45 Between December 2025 and February of this year, the Federal Circuit repeatedly upheld Netlist's key patents.2:52 That gave them leverage.2:53 The first big domino was a 303 million dollar verdict against Samsung.2:58 Now, there are more verdicts, pushing the total to 866 million dollars.3:02 The company's market cap is approaching a billion dollars.3:06 This is what an inflection point looks like.3:09 And they're not stopping.3:10 The new complaints filed in June target the heart of the AI boom—accusing Samsung, Google, Nvidia, and Broadcom of using their tech in AI servers.3:19 Here's the catch: one major appeal from Samsung on that first 303 million dollar verdict is still pending.3:26 A decision is expected later this year.3:28 But as one analyst put it, because the underlying patents keep surviving challenges, the odds of that verdict being reversed are getting NARROWER every single day.3:39 Netlist went from a nuisance lawsuit to a major financial threat to some of the biggest names in technology.3:45 So today, you have two very different pictures of risk.3:49 In Washington, it's about military escalation and broken deals.3:53 On Wall Street, it's about volatility metrics and whether a small patent holder in California can finally make tech giants pay their bills.4:02 The market is betting the financial risk is more predictable than the geopolitical one.4:07 For now.
