0:00 The U.S.0:00 is now in its fourth consecutive day of airstrikes against Iranian military sites.0:05 President Trump says the bombardment will continue until the Strait of Hormuz is open and safe for all ships.0:11 Yesterday, in episode seventy-eight, we covered the Senate blocking a new defense bill.0:16 Today, that political fight gets immediate, real-world context, as the President heads to the U.S.0:21 Army War College to address critically low missile stockpiles.0:25 Here are the other headlines moving the needle today.0:28 First, the economy just got some breathing room.0:31 Consumer price inflation cooled more than expected in June.0:34 The headline number actually FELL zero-point-four percent month-over-month, bringing year-over-year inflation down to three-point-five percent.0:42 The driver?0:43 A nearly ten percent drop in gasoline prices.0:45 In the markets, SK hynix just made its debut, and the numbers are wild.0:49 The stock is showing an unprecedented one hundred seventy-one percent implied volatility.0:55 That’s a level of turbulence that makes most stocks look tame, signaling major bets on huge price swings for the chipmaker.1:02 Meanwhile, Goldman Sachs has now overseen more than one TRILLION dollars in mergers and acquisitions just this year.1:08 That's trillion with a 'T'.1:10 CEO David Solomon credits the AI boom for fueling a massive wave of corporate dealmaking.1:15 On the political front, a new Harvard CAPS / Harris poll shows President Trump’s approval rating holding steady at forty-two percent.1:22 But the real story is what voters are worried about.1:25 Eighty-two percent say AI poses serious social dangers, from job loss to energy consumption.1:31 And a new report from the Center for Collaborative Democracy finds that eighty-three percent of Americans are now demanding historic political and economic reforms that both parties—and the President—have so far denied them.1:43 And finally, ArchWell Health today launched its fourth annual breast cancer awareness campaign, marking National "Pink Letter Project Day." Okay, let's go deeper on the two stories that define the day: the conflict with Iran and the new inflation numbers.1:58 They seem separate.1:59 They are not.2:00 Here’s the situation.2:01 The U.S.2:01 is actively striking Iranian targets.2:03 This is a direct response to attacks on shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global chokepoint for oil.2:10 President Trump’s message is blunt: the strikes don't stop until the passage is secure.2:15 That brings us to his summit today in Pennsylvania.2:18 This isn't a routine speech.2:19 It’s a crisis meeting about munitions.2:21 Sources confirm that U.S.2:23 stockpiles of Tomahawk cruise missiles, Patriot interceptors, and THAAD systems are severely depleted.2:29 The conflict is burning through our inventory faster than we can replace it.2:33 So, the administration is prosecuting a military campaign while simultaneously trying to rally support for a massive defense spend the Senate just blocked.2:42 That's one front.2:43 Now, look at the second front: the economy.2:45 Today's CPI report was the best economic news the White House has had in months.2:50 Inflation is cooling.2:51 The main reason is that energy prices, specifically gasoline, dropped significantly.2:56 That gives consumers relief.2:57 It gives the Federal Reserve, which we know has been pivoting, more room to maneuver.3:02 It’s a fragile, but important, win.3:04 Here’s the collision point.3:06 A wider conflict in the Strait of Hormuz would cause oil prices to EXPLODE.3:10 Not just rise—explode.3:11 A ten percent drop in gas prices could reverse and become a twenty or thirty percent spike in a matter of days.3:18 The good news from today's inflation report would be completely wiped out.3:22 Every bit of progress on taming prices would vanish.3:25 This is the razor's edge the administration is walking.3:28 They are using military force to secure a shipping lane, which is essential for stable energy prices in the long term.3:35 But the military action itself risks a much wider war that would trigger the very economic chaos they're trying to prevent.3:42 Gold prices are telling you this story.3:44 They aren't spiking.3:45 They actually declined today.3:47 The market is betting the U.S.3:48 can keep this conflict contained.3:50 It's betting the strikes will work without escalating into a full-blown war that shuts down the strait.3:56 That is a very, very expensive bet.3:58 The White House is fighting a war on two fronts.4:01 One is with missiles over the Persian Gulf.4:03 The other is with prices at the gas pump.4:06 A victory in one could easily mean a catastrophic loss in the other.
