0:00 Brent crude oil prices just surged over three-point-three percent, trading above 114 dollars a barrel.0:07 West Texas Intermediate followed, rising to around 103 dollars.0:11 This isn’t a market fluctuation.0:13 It’s a direct response to the United States indefinitely continuing its naval blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, choking off a critical artery of global energy.0:24 The economic pressure extends beyond oil.0:27 Today, the Senate Banking Committee votes on the confirmation of Kevin Warsh as the next Federal Reserve Chair.0:35 The vote happens to coincide with Jerome Powell’s final meeting as chairman, signaling a major shift in monetary policy is imminent.0:44 Markets are bracing for the impact.0:46 In technology, Google just signed a deal with the Department of Defense to provide API access to its AI systems for classified military work.0:56 The move immediately triggered an internal crisis, with hundreds of Google’s own AI researchers sending a letter to the CEO in protest.1:05 Meanwhile, financial markets are showing deep fractures.1:09 While the S&P 500 and Nasdaq are muted, individual stocks are making violent moves.1:15 Silicon Motion Technology surged over thirty-two percent.1:19 At the same time, SoFi Technologies and Robinhood Markets both collapsed by more than twelve percent.1:26 And in medicine, Pfizer announced positive Phase 3 results for a new cancer treatment.1:32 The drug, ELREXFIO, showed a statistically significant improvement in progression-free survival for patients with a common type of blood cancer, multiple myeloma.1:43 Let's go back to the Strait of Hormuz.1:45 The price at the pump is just the first, most visible effect.1:50 The real story is the supply shock now hitting the global system.1:54 Goldman Sachs reports the blockade created a shortfall of approximately thirteen-point-seven million barrels per day in April.2:03 That has pushed global oil stocks toward all-time lows.2:07 This is not an accident.2:08 The Wall Street Journal confirms President Trump sees the long-running blockade as a preferable alternative to direct military conflict.2:18 He is choosing economic warfare.2:20 The White House position is clear: the blockade will not be lifted until Iran agrees to a deal.2:26 President Trump posted on Truth Social this morning that Iran, quote, "can't get their act together." But Iran’s government has been just as clear, stating the blockade must be removed before any negotiations can begin.2:41 This is a complete deadlock.2:43 And the pressure is working.2:45 Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent reported today that Iranian oil storage facilities on Kharg Island are now nearing capacity.2:54 With nowhere to put the oil, Iran has begun shutting down production.2:59 This isn't like turning off a tap.3:01 Halting production risks permanent damage to their aging infrastructure.3:06 The US strategy is to squeeze until the Iranian economy—and its primary source of revenue—breaks.3:13 The second major pressure point today is inside Google.3:17 The deal to provide AI to the Pentagon is a watershed moment.3:21 For years, Google has tried to walk a fine line between lucrative defense contracts and employee ethics.3:28 That line just vanished.3:30 The company’s official statement calls providing AI APIs for classified work a "responsible approach to supporting national security." But hundreds of its own AI researchers disagree.3:42 They sent a letter to CEO Sundar Pichai with a stark warning.3:46 Quote: "As people working on AI, we know that these systems can centralize power and that they do make mistakes." This isn't a philosophical debate anymore.3:57 It’s a direct conflict between the creators of a technology and the leadership deploying it for military purposes.4:05 The protest isn't just about this one deal.4:08 It's about who gets to decide how one of the most powerful tools on earth is used.4:14 So today we have two stories of immense power being applied to force a specific outcome.4:20 The United States is using its military dominance to try and break the Iranian economy, betting that economic collapse will precede a political one.4:30 And Google's leadership is using its technological dominance to support military aims, betting it can manage the internal dissent from the very people who build its systems.4:42 Both are high-stakes pressure campaigns, where the room for miscalculation is vanishingly small.4:49 The question is no longer if something will give.4:52 It’s what breaks first.
