0:00 The President's economic advisor just used the words "rogue institution" to describe the Federal Reserve.0:05 In episode 70, we told you the Fed surprised everyone with a rate hike.0:09 Today, the White House declared war over it.0:12 This isn't just a disagreement.0:13 This is a public, direct challenge to the central bank's independence, and it changes the entire economic picture for you, for everyone, overnight.0:22 Here’s what else is moving today, July seventh, 2026.0:25 Following yesterday's Supreme Court ruling, the Justice Department just issued emergency guidance to all fifty states.0:31 It’s a legal stopgap, but it signals the administration is preparing for a direct constitutional fight over state versus federal power.0:39 Next, the North American power grid is under attack.0:42 CISA confirmed a coordinated cyberattack hit three major electrical substations in the Midwest.0:47 So far, the grid is holding, but ten million people are on rolling blackout warnings.0:52 This is NOT a drill.0:53 Out of California, Lawrence Livermore National Lab announced a net energy gain in a fusion reaction for the third time.0:59 The difference?1:00 This time, the gain was one hundred and fifty percent.1:03 They didn't just break even.1:05 They proved the physics for a commercial-scale reactor are now viable.1:09 New unemployment numbers just dropped.1:11 They're up point-three percent.1:12 Not a crash, but it's the first significant rise in eighteen months, and it gives the White House more ammunition to use against the Fed.1:20 General Motors is recalling every single Hummer EV.1:23 A flaw in the battery casing creates a fire risk.1:26 This is a two-billion-dollar problem for GM and a massive blow to their electric truck ambitions.1:31 The bipartisan immigration framework in the Senate is officially dead.1:35 The lead Republican negotiator just walked away, citing "a total breakdown of trust." That means no reform before the midterms.1:42 Period.1:42 The FDA just granted full approval for a new Alzheimer's treatment from Biogen.1:47 It's the first drug shown to actually reverse plaque buildup in early-stage patients.1:51 This is a genuine breakthrough.1:53 Drought and heat have pushed the West to a breaking point.1:56 The President will sign an emergency declaration for California, Arizona, and Nevada this afternoon, unlocking federal funds as the wildfire season starts a month early.2:06 And finally, the Pentagon just declassified a new report on Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena.2:11 It details twenty-six encounters by naval aviators that it categorizes as "unresolved," with telemetry data that defies known physics.2:18 Okay, let's go back to the White House and the Fed.2:21 Because this is the story that will define the rest of the year.2:25 For decades, presidents have understood the third rail of economic policy: you do NOT publicly attack the Federal Reserve.2:32 You can disagree.2:32 You can appoint new governors.2:34 But you never, ever question their legitimacy.2:37 It spooks the markets and makes the U.S.2:39 look unstable.2:40 Today, the White House grabbed that third rail with both hands.2:43 Here's the play-by-play.2:45 The President’s chief economic advisor, speaking from the White House briefing room, said — and I am quoting directly — "The Federal Reserve's politically motivated rate hike is a reckless gamble with American livelihoods." Politically motivated.2:58 He accused the supposedly independent Fed of playing politics.3:02 That is the core of it.3:03 Why now?3:03 Why this fight?3:04 Two reasons.3:05 One, those unemployment numbers.3:07 The White House sees the economy starting to soften and they believe the Fed's hike will turn a slowdown into a RECESSION.3:13 They need a scapegoat, and Fed Chair Thompson is the perfect target.3:17 Two, it's about a fundamental shift in power.3:20 This administration believes the old norms are broken.3:23 They saw the Supreme Court's move yesterday, they see Congress deadlocked, and they've decided that if the institutions won't act, they will force the issue.3:31 Here's the catch.3:32 It might not work.3:33 The market's initial reaction was panic.3:36 The Dow futures dropped four hundred points in ten minutes after that press conference.3:40 Global investors rely on the Fed's independence.3:43 It’s the bedrock of the dollar's credibility.3:46 By calling it a "rogue institution," the White House isn't just picking a fight with the Fed Chair.3:51 They are gambling with the full faith and credit of the United States.3:55 This isn't a debate about monetary policy anymore.3:58 It's a bare-knuckle political brawl over who controls the economy.4:01 The White House is betting that you, the voter, will blame the unelected bankers at the Fed for the pain of inflation and a potential recession.4:09 The Fed is betting that the global financial system will blink first, forcing the White House to back down.4:15 Someone is wrong.4:16 And the fallout will land directly in your wallet.4:19 The unspoken agreement that kept politics out of our central bank just evaporated.4:24 Today, the rulebook was torn up on live television.
