0:00 Prime Minister Narendra Modi just announced a fundamental change in how India is governed.0:06 The country is officially moving from a model of "prohibited unless permitted" to one of "permitted unless prohibited." Admin, this is a massive signal to the entire economy.0:17 Just yesterday we talked about the old guard with the Tata Sons AGM pause; this new approach is designed to sweep that kind of friction away for good.0:28 Here's what else is moving today.0:30 The American nuclear industry is now formally preparing its feedback on India's new SHANTI rules.0:36 This is the first concrete step towards private companies, including foreign ones, entering India's civil nuclear energy sector.0:45 It's a huge deal for energy independence and for investors who have been locked out for decades.0:52 In a different kind of policy shift, heatwaves are now officially a "notified natural calamity." This isn't just a label.1:00 It means dedicated disaster response funds can now be unlocked to deal with extreme heat, putting it on the same level as floods or earthquakes.1:10 Meanwhile, at the same forum where the Prime Minister spoke, the government's focus on technology and security was clear.1:18 Modi personally urged space startups to move beyond just building rockets and start creating applications.1:25 And National Security Advisor Ajit Doval had a direct message for India's youth: prioritize national interest above all else.1:34 Finally, top business leaders are framing India's new economic posture.1:38 Kumar Mangalam Birla says the goal isn't just to be a "China plus one" alternative, but a "World plus one" destination.1:47 He noted that while global growth has slowed, the Indian economy seems to have grown its own shock absorbers.1:54 It’s a sentiment about building resilience — or as another CEO put it, creating economic "insulation, not isolation." So let's go back to the Prime Minister's announcement, because that one line changes the entire conversation about doing business in India.2:11 For decades, the default answer from the government was "no." You needed a license, a permit, a stamp of approval to do almost anything.2:21 That was the "prohibited unless permitted" model.2:24 It was the core of the old Licence Raj.2:27 Now, the government is flipping the script.2:30 "Permitted unless prohibited." So what does that actually mean?2:34 It means the default answer is now supposed to be YES.2:38 The assumption is that if there isn't a specific law or regulation saying you can't do something, then you can.2:45 This isn't just a new rule.2:47 It's a new GOVERNING PHILOSOPHY.2:49 It's a signal from the very top that the government wants to get out of the way.2:55 It tells entrepreneurs and investors that their energy should be spent building their business, not fighting bureaucracy.3:03 When Modi says his government is moving away from a "Production Linked Punishment" model, this is what he's talking about.3:11 Now, connect that to the second biggest development: the opening of the nuclear sector.3:17 For more than sixty years, nuclear power in India has been a government-run monopoly.3:23 The new SHANTI rules are meant to change that, bringing in private companies.3:28 But private capital, especially from the U.S., is cautious.3:32 It wants to know the rules of the game.3:35 And the single biggest rule they care about is LIABILITY.3:39 What happens if something goes wrong?3:41 Who pays?3:42 This has been the main obstacle to foreign participation for years.3:46 The feedback the U.S.3:48 industry is now preparing will directly address this, along with rules for licensing and how projects are structured.3:56 This isn't just a technical discussion.3:58 This feedback will literally write the playbook for how trillions of rupees could be invested into India's energy grid over the next generation.4:08 These two stories — the regulatory shift and the nuclear opening — are not separate.4:14 They are the same story.4:15 One provides the philosophy, the other provides the test case.4:20 The "permitted unless prohibited" mindset is the air cover for daring, high-stakes policy moves like privatizing nuclear energy.4:28 It's an attempt to fundamentally de-risk India in the eyes of the world, proving the country has the political stability and the policy continuity to absorb massive investment.4:40 It's a declaration that India is no longer just building for growth.4:45 It's building for resilience in a world that's getting more chaotic.
