0:00 Nearly seventy-three percent of Indian students are dropping out before completing higher secondary education.0:07 In our last episode, we talked about falling earnings for graduates.0:12 Well, a new Parliamentary Committee report shows the problem starts much, MUCH earlier.0:17 The system is losing almost three out of every four students along the way.0:22 Here's what else is moving.0:24 The Supreme Court just criticized the Food Safety and Standards Authority, or FSSAI.0:30 The issue is over proposed warning labels on packaged foods high in salt, sugar, and fat.0:36 The court's pushback highlights a growing tension between public health goals and regulatory process.0:43 In trade, talks between India and the US are still on track, but the real story is in the numbers.0:49 India's electronics exports have surged an incredible eleven-fold, hitting four-point-two-four lakh crore rupees.0:57 That's a massive jump, showing real strength in the sector.1:01 Meanwhile, India is continuing to import over two million units of Russian oil.1:06 This is happening even as the US is threatening a new one-hundred-percent tariff to stop these purchases.1:13 For now, India is prioritizing its energy security over international pressure.1:19 And in Parliament, two major bills just passed.1:22 First, the Supreme Court will now have more judges.1:25 A new amendment raises the total number from thirty-four to thirty-eight.1:30 Second, the Mines and Minerals Amendment Bill was approved, which will now standardize how minerals are taxed across the entire country.1:39 Finally, the Karnataka High Court has thrown out a money laundering case brought by the Enforcement Directorate against the firm Sammaan Capital.1:49 Okay, let's go back to that education report.1:52 That seventy-three percent dropout number is staggering.1:56 And the Parliamentary Committee report digs into exactly why it's happening.2:01 Here's the core issue.2:03 It's not about a lack of students wanting to learn.2:06 It's about a lack of places FOR them to learn.2:09 Think of the education system as a pyramid.2:12 The base is enormous.2:13 According to the latest data, India has over nine lakh primary schools.2:18 But as you go up, the pyramid narrows dramatically.2:22 There are only about one-point-six lakh secondary schools.2:26 And at the very top, for higher secondary education?2:29 Just over ninety thousand.2:31 So for every ten primary schools, there is roughly one higher secondary school.2:36 You can see the problem.2:38 Students finish one level and find there’s simply nowhere to go next.2:42 The path just… ends.2:44 The committee's report has a quote that says it all.2:47 "The Committee are concerned to note this drastic decline in number of schools and students as education levels rises." They are urging the Ministry of Education to make upgrading existing schools an urgent priority.3:02 The goal is to turn more primary and secondary schools into full higher secondary schools to stop this massive student drop-off.3:10 There's another shift happening at the same time.3:14 Between 2023 and 2025, government schools lost almost eighty-six lakh students.3:19 Where did they go?3:20 During that same period, private schools gained more than eighty-eight lakh students.3:26 Parents are increasingly choosing private schools, likely because they perceive them to have better quality or more resources.3:35 So you have two problems running in parallel.3:38 The physical infrastructure isn't there to support students all the way through the system.3:44 And at the same time, there's a clear loss of confidence in the government schools that do exist.3:50 It paints a picture of a system under immense strain.3:54 The path from primary school to a good job is supposed to be a ladder.3:59 Right now, for millions of students, most of the rungs on that ladder are simply MISSING.
