0:00 Japanese researchers just announced a breakthrough using graphene that could cut AI energy consumption by one hundred times.0:07 In episode 100, we talked about the power shifts as the U.S.0:10 tightens its grip on models like Anthropic's Mythos 5.0:13 A discovery that makes elite AI cheap to run could scramble that entire board.0:18 Because while governments are trying to control the software, the physical foundation of computing just changed.0:24 Here's what’s moving.0:25 The money map for AI is being redrawn, and it’s not pointing toward Silicon Valley.0:30 Abu Dhabi-based BlueFive Capital just co-led a three-billion-dollar funding round for KlingAI, a Chinese AI video startup.0:37 That single check values the company at eighteen billion dollars.0:41 This isn't just another big round.0:43 It's Gulf money creating a Chinese generative video giant, outside the US tech sphere.0:47 At the same time, UK startups pulled in seventeen billion dollars in the first half of this year.0:53 Seventy-four percent of that went to AI.0:55 So the big checks are still being written.0:58 But here's the turn.0:59 For everyone else, the climate is getting brutal.1:02 One founder said the three lines she heard all quarter were: "AI saturation," "Where's the defensibility?" and "Show me revenue, not users." So while ninety new AI unicorns have been created this year, the message is clear: the easy money is gone.1:16 You either get a nation-state-level investment, or you prove you can actually sell something.1:21 Next, Microsoft just made a two-point-five-billion-dollar bet on enterprise distrust.1:26 They've launched a new subsidiary, Microsoft Frontier Company, with six thousand engineers.1:31 This is NOT a new model.1:33 This is a service.1:34 Microsoft's pitch is that your intelligence stays yours—model-agnostic, data protected.1:39 They are betting that businesses are becoming deeply wary of handing their proprietary data over to foundation model labs like OpenAI or Anthropic.1:47 This creates an entirely new layer in the market.1:50 It’s not about having the best model.1:52 It's about being the most trusted partner.1:54 Amazon, OpenAI, and Anthropic are making similar, smaller investments, but Microsoft is the first to build a separate company around the idea.2:02 They see the next trillion dollars not in building the smartest AI, but in securely deploying everyone else's.2:09 It's a direct attack on the idea that a few labs will own the entire ecosystem.2:13 Finally, the world just got its first look at a global rulebook for AI.2:17 The United Nations released its preliminary report, and it is not an academic exercise.2:22 It’s a catalog of harms.2:24 The panel cites AI-generated deepfakes influencing elections in over thirty countries.2:29 It talks about robocalls using voice clones of a sitting head of state to suppress voter turnout.2:34 The core of the report is a single, damning quote: "Currently, there is insufficient transparency and explainability of many AI systems...2:42 this creates challenges for legal accountability." That's the UN saying the way these systems are built is fundamentally breaking legal systems and impeding access to justice.2:52 This document is the starting gun for global regulation.2:55 The fights over privacy, bias, and accountability are no longer just corporate liabilities.3:00 They are now officially matters of international human rights.3:04 So while capital chases video models in China and Microsoft builds a fortress for corporate data, the ground truth is changing.3:11 That Japanese breakthrough in graphene computing isn't just about efficiency.3:16 It promises to move high-end AI out of massive data centers and onto your phone.3:20 The power that nations and corporations are fighting to control today is built on a foundation of silicon and energy.3:27 That foundation just cracked.
