0:00 More than ninety percent of the world's caves have never been seen by human eyes.0:07 Last week, we explored the secret kingdom of bees, a world buzzing with life just beyond our sight.0:16 Today, we go deeper… into a kingdom of absolute darkness.0:21 You stand at the mouth of the earth.0:24 Before you is not a door, but a wound in the rock, breathing cool, damp air that smells of stone and ancient quiet.0:34 You switch on your headlamp.0:37 A single, perfect circle of light cuts into the black.0:42 The quest begins.0:43 You take a step inside, and the world you knew vanishes.0:48 The air is still.0:50 The only sound is the drip… drip… drip of water, the slow heartbeat of the mountain.0:57 This tunnel wasn't carved by people or machines.1:01 It was made by the planet itself.1:04 For millions of years, rainwater, made slightly acid by the air, seeped through cracks in this limestone.1:14 Drop by drop, it dissolved the rock, carrying it away, sculpting this passage with nothing but time and water.1:24 Your beam catches on strange shapes.1:27 From the ceiling hang what look like giant, stone icicles.1:32 These are stalactites.1:34 Remember they hold TIGHT to the ceiling.1:38 And rising from the floor to meet them are jagged spires, like a dragon’s teeth.1:45 Stalagmites… they MIGHT reach the top someday.1:49 Each one is a stone diary, growing less than a centimeter a year.1:55 Some of the largest ones began their journey before humans ever built cities.2:02 You are walking through geologic time.2:05 The passage narrows.2:07 The walls press in.2:09 You have to turn sideways, shuffling through a tight squeeze called "The Keyhole." For a moment, there is only rock in front of you and rock behind you.2:22 The darkness feels… heavy.2:24 This is the challenge every explorer faces.2:28 The moment you must push forward into the unknown.2:33 You take a breath, push one last time, and then… you fall forward into open space.2:40 Whoa.2:41 You’ve found it.2:42 A hidden cathedral.2:44 The chamber is immense, bigger than a football field, and your light can’t even find the walls.2:52 The ceiling glitters with crystals, a galaxy of minerals.2:57 And across the floor flows a river, black as glass.3:02 But wait.3:03 In the water… something moves.3:05 You kneel at the river's edge, lowering your light.3:10 It’s a fish.3:11 But not like any you’ve ever seen.3:14 It’s ghost-white, with no color at all.3:18 And where its eyes should be… there is only smooth skin.3:23 It’s completely blind.3:25 This creature, and others like it, have lived down here in perpetual night for so many generations that they no longer need to see.3:36 They hunt and navigate by feel, by sensing the whisper of water against their skin.3:44 You’ve discovered a lifeform perfectly sculpted by this impossible darkness.3:50 An entire world that thrives without a single ray of sun.3:56 As you watch the pale fish swim, you understand.4:00 The greatest adventures aren't just on old maps.4:04 They are still waiting, right beneath your feet, in the secret, silent kingdoms of the Earth.
